The 2026 Free Agency Thread

At this point I favor Jennings over Aiyuk considering context.

Same. With Aiyuk, we have all the drama and all the uncertainty. And that’s just getting him here—once we do, we really have no idea if he’ll be anything close to what he was a few years ago. Jennings, on the other hand, we know what we’re getting. No he’s not an all-star, but he’s a solid player and is the best option available.

We have the money. Get him. Some will say he is over priced, but it’s that or they can keep going back to the ‘old cheap free agents and injured guys who haven’t been good for a few years’ well.

I wish they had signed him over Van Jefferson over a month ago
Agree, on it's face, I'd absolutely want Jennings over Jefferson. However, something is rotten in the State of Denmark. Jennings is a solid receiver. If they signed him, right now, for 2-yrs, $25m guaranteed, I'd be very happy. Question is, why hasn't anyone, not just us, signed him? This is the first offer we've heard of and it's only a year? Is he asking for the moon? It's very odd.

Do we know he received a offer? I know he left without signing anything.

If I recall, his estimated value was $18-$20 mill but it was thought he sought more.

AP must not be sold on him being worthy of that range and he is sticking to it. He must still be convinced Aiyuk will be here.

I find this extremely unsettling

Well, we don’t necessarily hear about every offer that’s made. But either way you can make the same argument about every receiver who is available. Nobody has signed them either. Some guys just prefer to sign later so they can weigh all their options. I don’t think there’s anything odd about that. If there was some dirt out there on him that was keeping every team away, chances are we would’ve heard about it.

That’s how it seems to me. Jennings is my preference, but their apparent lack of interest tells me that they’ve settled on Aiyuk and are very confident he will end up here. If so, I’m fine with it because I’m assuming they know a lot more about his situation and condition than any of us do.

The report I saw didn't confirm an official offer was made, but it suggested Minnesota at least told him they're interested in a one-year deal.

Spotrac (I think) previously estimated his AAV at $22.6M, but it seems pretty clear at this point the league feels differently. I think the last thing I saw indicated Jennings had lowered his ask from $20-25M AAV, to $15-20M AAV, and I'm sure he's still looking for a multi-year deal.

I've still never seen anything suggesting Commanders had/have interest in Jennings. I think Keim actually said at some point Washington had 'decided to go in a different direction' than Jennings - which so far appears to mean a new paint job on the 2025 WR fiasco. Disappointing.

The thing is, word has been that Jennings was/is asking for an absurd amount of money, way more than he's worth.

It's probably why he hasn't been signed yet.

I do recall seeing the reference of them going in a different direction.

I took that as them having interest but decided to walk away due to Jauan's exaggerated thought of his worth.

Perhaps that take was incorrect. Maybe they never really looked at him :whoknows:

I predict the moment after we sign a wide a receiver, the 49ers release Aiyuk. Lynch doesn't want the guy to win. It's become personal. If Lych thinks the Commanders won't sign him after inking a HIll or a Jennings or a Diggs, they will let Aiyuk go figuring Aiyuk won't get to sign with the team he wants to.

That's a solid prediction. Lynch and Kyle are vindictive over the whole ordeal. I'm not certain I can blame them depending on what parts of the stories are accurate.

On the field Diggs would be great. I however have a hard time seeing AP and DQ making Boston Strangler a Commander

That might be the case. But I think we should sign another guy in addition to Aiyuk anyway.

I normally hate taking on character guys, but I’m starting to like the idea of Diggs, if they can figure out his legal situation. It’s May. It doesn’t seem like a stretch to get his trial delayed until January. That stuff happens all the time. He could be had for a one year deal, will be cheaper than Jennings, produced 1,000 yards last year as the leading receiver on a SB team. And it leaves us rookies to still sign Aiyuk.

Oh, I do too.

I don't have a lot of confidence that Aiyuk is ready to hit the ground running or can be "that guy" again. If we really did have that confidence then you actually do the trade. After all, 1.2m this year and 30m (or whatever it is next year) is fair market for a number oneish receiver.

It's the cheese!

My favorite line from Betty White on The Golden Girls when Bea Arthur used that phrase.

I've thought this all along. The team would be taking a massive risk in signing him. I'm not against it, but there needs to be a backup plan, more solid anyway. These are elite athletes and he hasn't played for nearly two years. He may or may not be in shape, but I highly doubt he's ready to be elite like he was in 2023. I don't know that if 85% or 90% is good enough because the difference the worst players in each position in this league are not massively different as a whole. Sure there are outliers, but two years off is a looooong time in this league.

Strongly agree on the sentiment towards Aiyuk. If he could be "that guy" again, teams would be offering something, anything in trade for him to SF. If he could be "that guy" again, SF would probably be looking to mend bridges and keep him. WR's always have the ego, required at their position, but that comes with risky baggage as they still have to believe they can be "that guy" after injuries, off field issues or other, but seems like there is enough circumstantial evidence surrounding him, we should look elsewhere. I like the Diggs alternative at this point and time.

I disagree. I think that people just both don't want to trade for his contract and don't want to trade for someone who seems to only want to be in Washington. As for SF not wanting him....
