With Jayden's mom watching who he dates and sitting between them and then representing him as his agent, for real. I'd say Brady was being truthfully serious in a roundabout joking nice way.
 
Somebody clearly wrote that joke for Tom. It was good though, and of course Jayden took it like a champ.

I’ve never been more certain folks are going to be eating their words, with all the reaching for reasons last year stunk.

It's got to motivate JD5 that much more this year to do even better than in 2024.
 
I think Tom made the same joke months ago. Pretty sure it is recycled. I thought said that at the intro for the flag football league or whatever.
 
I know that we could, in theory, negotiate an extension for Jayden after this coming season. Does anyone know if there are rules about when it is allowed to begin? Can the extension fully replace the rookie contract year 4? Is that the standard practice for previous big money rookie QB extensions?

The big money extensions can be negotiated at the start of the new league year after his third season ends, I’m pretty sure. And that’s also the offseason when you have to decide whether you’re exercising the 5th year option (you have to do that before year 4 begins). So the extension, cap-wise, usually starts from there and the structure can lower the cap hit of what would normally be a really large 5th year option cap hit at QB.

And the new deal gets tacked onto the end of the rookie deal, with the signing bonus providing the “now” money.

I believe all of this is correct

Ive always kind of wondered how they blend those early extensions with current contracts.

Obviously teams aren't going to rip up cheap years and replace them with high money ones so do they just tack the years onto the end or do they kind of do a little math and lower the aav based on how many cheap years were left.
Maybe a combination of both, I dont know.

This year is going to be huge in determining jaydens future with the team, if he balls out like his rookie year he's getting a massive deal next offseason.

If its more like 2025 I think they'll use the wait and see approach.

Too many teams have been burned by giving huge deals to non sure thing quarterbacks and now they're paying them massive salaries to play against them.

2 years ago id have bet life savings that Cj stroud would be negotiating a record breaking deal this year but I haven't heard a whisper of it.
 
I heard that Burrow got tackled also. From the coup of clips that I saw, this is super fast paced and intense. They blitz the QBs fast. I could see this being a bigger sport now but it's dangerous for these pros who are making a lot of money.

The other day though, Jayden says that he feels good and is 100 percent so at least he feels good enough to run routes and stuff.

It’s been shocking since day 1 that this was announced that NFL contracts don’t protect against this. Some sports do. There have even been NFL players whose contracts stated they couldn’t play basketball for fun in the offseason.

You’ll start seeing it in contracts going forward, I can almost guarantee it.

You can’t keep these guys from being competitive, and plenty of them do engage in risky athletic endeavors in the offseason so you’ll never be able to prohibit all of it.

It is a little surprising with the money these guys make and the importance they carry for their billion-dollar franchises, that the NFL doesn’t have some sort of actuary analyzing the risks of certain activities and putting clauses in the contracts.

This “league”, especially with its direct ties to dirty money, should be the exclusive territory of retired has-beens or former college star never-weres who want to trade on the fading values of their names before it’s too late. Not active star players. Let dudes like Tavon Austin and Johnny Manziel be the stars of this shit. It’s embarrassing for someone with a career, but could be fun for the busts and washed up guys.
