Personnel guys going after players they already like is normal across the league. It’s a problem when it’s bad players getting preference over better players. What’s being implied is that worse players are getting preferential treatment due to the 49er connection. I’m not saying it never happens, but the fact that they swing bigger and missed on other options first (Pierce + Doubs) shows that it’s not about comfort with Jennings due to the 49er connection. Obviously

In fact we’re such a loser destination that can’t attract anyone, apparently, that people should be begging for SF and DET and DAL connections to come into play as fondness towards our staff may be the only way we can draw any other talent to come here. People without personal connections seem to want nothing to do with coming here, other than the enormous bag we dropped on Oweh.

I don’t think we had a real shot at Pierce, seems like he was just fishing for an offer for Indy to match, but I worry his familiarity with Jennings and Aiyuk are a bit of a security blanket and may have cost us Doubs. That’s my true concern, that he won’t be as aggressive in some situations because he has SF guys he’s comfortable with to fall back on.

Anyway, great signing on Chenal. Huge need that I was starting to fear they either didn't see or prioritize. Do like what they’re doing on defense. Now get me Jennings and Chig so I can calm tf down.

We have 5 starting 3-4 type of backers now and may add another. I wonder how we are going to work all of this. The good thing is Jones is perfect for this and depth is never a bad thing

I've never disputed any of this. Remember my reply said umm, I think that it's both. I would be more than fine with Jennings and Ayuik as they are more than qualified but my point is that you acted like the 49ers connection had nothing to do with it which to me is being naive. It's clearly part of it which isn't necessarily a bad thing or a good thing

My point was that we already whiffed on two WR’s we apparently liked more than Jennings in Pierce/Doubs, so familiarity with Jennings isn’t over-weighted. Same with Aiyuk who will only come here because he’s best friends with our QB, which is a unique angle for a problem character like him needing a fresh start.

The fact that they’re coming from the 49ers, in context, is more of a factoid and not a driving factor. You’re right that it’s not “nothing” but it’s not “49er-Skins” either.

I watched a ton of KC given that my son is a Chiefs fan. Chenal is a really active player who always seemed to be around the football. He definitely will help bring a certain level of energy and help establish an attitude on defense. This is a step in the right direction and a reminder to trust the process.

They said improving team speed was a an absolute must. And they are delivering on that promise. No more watching Bobby Wagner get torched every game. GREAT SIGNING! Him and Magee are seriously fast MLB's. Feel good about the defense now. Time to get JD some weapons.

They are going to need to bring Deebo back if they don't sign someone soon. I might bring him back anyway.

Chenal is a positive signing but not one that I look at as a huge deal. He will start for us most likely. And be a positive addition. So in that sense I like it. He’s also fast, which I really like.

Chaisson would be a great get.

Still a ways to go but we can salvage this.

These guys used to let their free agents go and focus on the draft. Guess this leopard has changed its spots.

The saints were famously in extreme cap hell for what felt like a decade in the later Brees years, it took them forever to get out of it after the way they kept restructuring their contracts to try and win before Brees retired.

If Peters is considering taking Tate at #7 then the intense concern over WR2 at this point may not be warranted.

All of the moves on defense so far to me mean that the draft is largely going to be about offense.

Chaisson was on his way to being out of the league after his first few years in Jacksonville but seems to have finally unlocked all the potential he showed at LSU. Was great seeing him terrorize folks last season. I’d be good with the signing as he’s really made some great strides the last two seasons. If it was a one year wonder type deal I’d be a lot more skeptical. Wouldn’t expect him to be an every down guy but Daronte could probably dial up some diabolical blitz packages with Oweh, Chaisson, Chenal, and Mikey/Robertson.

Ayuik should be released tomorrow and I expect us to grab him then. Hopefully we get someone to go with him

The fact Deebo has not been signed yet may be a signal that he is not being realistic in his ask price.

Teams are not going to pay a premium for a possession type receiver, if you don't have speed and down the field ability then you are at that second tier.

At 30 age works against him too.
