Sounds like they're saying it'll be Allegretti and another warm body.

You dont sign a starting caliber center as competition to Nick allegretti
 
Reports are that colts maybe using the transition tag on Daniel Jones. If this happens Pierce would than become a unrestricted free agent.
 
Kind of reminds me of The Hogs and Jeff Bostic. Jeff was always the undersized one they kept trying to replace, but Jeff kept winning the job. For some reason, I just think center is considered a make-do position that people don't throw a lot of resources towards.

The way I see it, roughly speaking…

Optimistically: Competition is what they preach, so they’re not handing the starting job off no matter how much of an upgrade they acquire. Competition is the minimum they’re looking for, but they’re going to work hard to find an upgrade. Could be a draftee or a guy more talented than Allegretti, but Allegretti might have the early edge due to scheme and verbiage familiarity.

Pessimistically: We bring in a guy ala Dieter, best man wins the competition, but Center is a big problem for us. Poor center play negatively impacts both our ground game and Daniels, and mitigates any positive additions to the offense. This results in essentially/potentially tanking our season, wasting a year of Daniels’ rookie contract, causing wholesale coaching changes, and possibly putting Peters on the hot seat.

You’d have to imagine they see the pessimistic side and behave accordingly, lol. Guess we’ll see!
 
Not true. Pouncey was a major piece for the Steelers going to 3 Super Bowls in the 2000's and Baltimore is about to sign Linderbaum to a big contract to stay with the Ravens.

There are various ways of spending money to round out a team but even teams like the Eagles that under Roseman didn't spend big dollars in free agency or #1 picks on centers still ended up with a pro bowler they developed in Cam Jurgens.

With the accent on developing an effective inside pass rush up the middle in the NFL, it's more important than ever for a center to be able to pass protect at a high level, as the talent and athleticism at DT has gone up considerably vs. what we saw years ago from big bowling balls that just stopped the run.
 
I expected this.

Washington isn't going to just be able to just go out and sign a number of impact players that are 25 years old on Day 1 of free agency, that's one reason being realistic is part of the process.

Kyle Pitts being franchised was another move that one could have expected, even from a team as dysfunctional as the Falcons, who still don't have identified their starting quarterback for 2026.

From what we are seeing a guy like Connor McGovern may become available because the Bills are just hard up against the cap and are in a 'we can't keep everyone' position.

But these teams that finished with poor records - the Jets and Falcons and others like the Raiders - they can afford to franchise and transition tag guys and pay them close to ANYTHING they want because their overall rosters are weak and they can afford to cut any number of other players to make the numbers work.

I agree with your points except the one about competition no matter who you bring in.
For example if we did bring in someone like linderbaum, hes automatically the starter, kind of like how tunsil didn't have to compete with Coleman for left tackle and that applies all the way down to bringing in someone who wouldn't excite me in any way.

This is what I fear, until the day we released biadasz he was our unquestioned starter at center and now we have a question mark and I'd like to at least get back to where we were and not have two question marks.

Logan said something similar on Take Command. Usually the least athletic guy, easier to find replacements along the line and generally underpaid. I don't know enough about them but seems their responsibilities to calling protections (if they do it, QB does it, OC does it, etc.) are kind of important. LOL
 
Deiter couldn't play a lick, that was obvious the first time he came in for reps for the team.

At times this team has had players on the roster in depth positions that simply didn't belong in the NFL.

So far we have one starter on the OL now gone before free agency, and another in Chris Paul that seems like he is probably headed out of town on March 9.

All we have done so far is resign two guys in Allegretti and Wylie that were KC discards and allowed to walk away from a Super Bowl team because the GM and HC thought they were clearly expendable.

Anyways, I’m not feeling great about the offseason but the offseason is young. We are going to spend to the cap on free agents, re-up “He Who I Shalt Not Name”, get every player that everyone here wants at #7 and we are going to go on to win the Bowl.

And Ron Rivera will celebrate the win with us.

When I read the post the first thing I thought of was Vinny Cerrato telling people to calm down because the team had a plan and it was all going to work out :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
 
In my experience the good feelings from events that happen off the field over time do not compensate for having an organization the players feel is competent and going to put them in the best position to be successful.

I am sure that is going through Jayden Daniels' mind right now as he thinks about his future in the NFL and his rookie contract.
