I’ll have to re-watch his few catches this year. I remember he rumbled forward on a pass to the flats a few weeks ago and I couldn’t believe how slow and lumbering he looked, even mostly in a straight line. That’s fine if you’ve got immense size but he seems to have neither. He’s “athletic receiving TE” size but seems to actually be a better blocker than YAC guy.

As much as we get beat deep I would not appose Downs. On one of the videos someone posted here the coach said he thought he is the best defensive player in the country
My expectations for the late rounders are that many will stick with the team for a few years. It might mean the PS for year but they fill roles as backups and STers.
I don't expect for them to become starters unless it is to fill in due to starters injuries. If one does become a starter, great bonus! CRod, Bill and JJB have worked out well for this team.
We all talk about how important it is to have a younger roster. One of the easiest ways is to add through the draft. It's not about building starters in early rounds but building depth.
Adding late rounders that make the team come into games familiar with the coaching and schemes.
While contributing on the field in whatever way they do, they also give the team CAP relief while on their rookie contract.
In order to reach my expectations , you need competent scouting and coaching continuity is extremely important.
The college Sinnott was a YAC guy but not so much a seperator. Almost 7 YAC right now this season according to PFF, granted with limited data.
Good athlete, about 9.5 RAS, but not a burner.
Rewatching this last game with ALL 22, very impressed with him as a move run blocker. He'd be fun with Jeremiyah Love because as an H-back he's a good blocker and he plays like an old school fullback.
As a pass catcher he was open some, not just his catches, but some other times including being open for a TD but Johnson didn't pull the trigger.
My gut is with more reps, he's a decent #2 TE. I don't think a #1 type. Overdrafted? IMO, probably yes. If he was a 4th rounder, it would have been a good pick. For example McCaffrey to me in the late 3rd, 100th pick, is a good pick -- I think he's a better player than Sinnott because he can block too but is a better pass catcher, and is an excellent returner. But Sinnott to me isn't a bust, just over drafted IMO.

Yes! That's two first rounders and a third rounder, all big hits.
They had two other selections that have contributed this year. Fourth rounder (S) Billy Bowman was a big contributor until he tore his Achilles a month ago and seventh rounder (T) Jack Nelson who is their swing. That's 5 for 5 hits

Amazingly in the Falcons win, Drake London (8th overall pick) caught 1 pass for 4 yards and Kyle Pitts (4th overall pick) caught 2 passes for 16 yards while Bijan (8th overall pick) blew up.

There is a missing element on our offense. And coincidentally it also helps our defense - a dominant run game. Yes, with our three backs we have had a relatively good year running the ball. But that is also partially a function of the offensive line.
But a dominant run game is a ball control nightmare. Pair that with JD’s ability to throw and make plays on the fly and our offense becomes top tier almost immediately.
If we can get Breece Hall or Love I think those are necessary moves. Bijan was a game changer last night.
That said… we need to be heavy defense in the offseason - not necessarily the draft. Need a receiver on O (and an elite RB if possible) and the rest has to be defensive restructure.

The thing that's keeping me away from Love in all permutations of the draft is what happened in the middle of the season this year when we couldn't run for crap because defenses just stacked up 8 man boxes every week.
Terry (and Noah) being out meant our O had no one to stretch the field/beat their man and it just made running equally impossible. Drafting Love in the 1st, barring like a Pickens acquisition, means we probably still only have Terry (now 31) and MAYBE 1 other guy we sign who can credibly scare defenses, which is a thin line between a high-powered offense, and having an impotent offense that is running into 8 man boxes.
Kinda just feels like a waste/luxury. Bill will run impotently into 8 man boxes for much cheaper than a 1st round pick will, lol.

I think Hall is my number one target in FA. Actually this is a really deep RB FA class this year. Hall, Etienne, Williams and Walker would all add a really nice complimentary piece to Bill. And signing a RB in FA allows us to go defense or WR with that first round pick.
They can do that because the receivers were Chris Moore and Robbie Chosen, etc. With Terry back and adding another Z WR, a good Z, not a Wallmart one, and there are options in FA, that changes things.

I know we can't rely on it (especially after this year proved that we shouldn't) but I still have hopes that McCaffrey or Lane can emerge as a receiver.
Before he broke his collarbone, I felt that Luke was starting to earn QBs trust and was beginning to earn targets. Lane dropped way too many of his chances which worries me. I know he's raw and maybe he can work on his hands, but he dropped a lot of big plays.

Injuries will do that. I also think there is some blame on Sinnott/Kingsbury/Quinn. Sinnott is a YAC guy that hasn’t been getting the opportunities to be a YAC guy.
We need to get him the ball more. We need a possession guy - doesn’t need to be a stud - that makes consistent catches (doesn’t have to be anything spectacular) at X as well. Use Sinnott in that role as a move H.
We need to have reliable options. We have too many all flash type receivers and none that will just make consistent catches. I’m willing to give Burks a chance to fill that role; but I don’t think we should rely on it.
Getting a Breece Hall in FA now gives us: Hall, Bill, McNichols/Rodriguez as our RB room.
Then we have Terry and… nothing else at receiver. That first pick may be a receiver. If Mesidor doesn’t jump up draft boards we might be able to snag him later in the draft (but maybe not with our lack of picks).
Need a safety. Need two edges. Need a reliable possession receiver. Need a high end running back.
This team would be right back on track if 85% healthy.

Realistically, we can’t target all of them.
Replace Quan, get a new top RB, get a possession guy and get two quality edges, imo. That puts us in position for immediate success.
Now… that is easier said than done even with the limited version of this list.
