Respectfully, My Little Hippie & Co. have been in the league a few years more, and are on absolute FIRE. I lived there back in the late 80s, trying to get a team (they hosted Bud Adams to a huge trip, funded by taxpayers ffs).

He's a good GM because he went out and got a good WR for his QB when he needed one :p but also :|

If its the normal trade downs in the real world, I'd want a 2027 first rounder otherwise yawn unless they just trade down a pick or two. Trading down to 18, I'd gag unless there is a crazy haul including a 2027 first rounder.

Neither of those drafts you display as to the first two players though would excite me but to each their own.

Yes, agreed with the fantasy versions that are now and will change with players moving up and down from where they are now but it's principle will not. In the end, GMs have to analyze talent. It makes or breaks their careers, so to speak. The more picks the better chance of hitting the target (talented player(s) (i.e., you'll hit the bull's eye with 6 darts vs. 3).

Riggo44 Well, so far so good. Yes, we have a great year the 1st year but it seems as though what he drafted thus far and the extra picks acquired have set him up well. He certainly has started off better IMO, than AP and I am a fan of AP still but what has transpired from the day we made him GM and now is somewhat disappointing. He can still turn it around, however. I along with every other fan of this team am hoping so.

Also, the earlier you pick in the draft the better shot you got to get elite talent. It's part of the reason I gather why Roseman trades up so much.

Give me a meal at a Michelin star restaurant. It's more memorable than two meals at Outback.

This team for its faults drafting hasn't been poor at findiing those meals at Outbacks. They can find a solid meal with the best of them. But they don't approach Michelin star restaurants.

When they play other teams its about hey can they stop J. Gibbs or J. Chase, or J. Carter, or TJ Watt. On and on and on. Whose the guy that teams lose sleep over when playing Washington? Whose the guy they need to game plan to stop?

He tried to trade up with Washington again last year. And ended up trading up with the Chiefs.

Traded up to get Jalen Carter.

What do the Eagles excel at? it's chasing elite talent. Keim talks about that in recent podcasts -- Eagles don't get every pick or singing right but they do one thing this team struggles with -- that is, land elite talent.

Just engaging in friendly debate with you. I admitted that Roseman moves around in the early portion of the draft (up and down but mostly up) but he does trade down a lot and gather more picks too. I thought that was what a forum board was for. I agree with a lot of what you put out here on this forum but sometimes see it differently. That's all. :)

I don't have issue with anyone disagreeing. It's cool. I am just pushing back a bit on Howie. He has acquired assets, ala trading Wentz, I recall trading down with Miami, Atlanta. He seems to trade up more. But overall, the lesson to me with Howie is he's just aggressive period and has a knack for finding elite or borderline elite players.

trade downs with Washington
Vinny with the 2nd round picks -- Thomas, Kelley, Davis.
Skipping JJ Watt to take Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins -- they lose that trade but its the best of the bad lot of trades
Trade with Dallas so they can take Demarcus Lawrence so we can get Trent Murphy and Spencer Long
Trade with Seattle so they can get Tyler Lockett and we got a bunch of junk
Trade to skip Kyle Hamilton or Olave to go get Dotson, Robinson, Howell
Trade to give Eagles Cooper Dejean for Mike Sanristil and Ben Sinnott

Look am not opposed to trading down but no way I am just going to theortically endorse it without knowing the deal and just assume that we win the deal.

The upsides of these trades have been this

A. For draft geeks like me and you -- its a lot of fun. We get to unwrap three presents instead of one
B. draft media tends to love it so they laud your draft

So its a cool sugar rush initially. It sucks as far as what ultimately happens during the season. But it feels for 5 months great until the trades play out.

Right. Coen unlocking TLaw is the real factor there, and it took about half the season. Gladstone gets credit for bringing in Meyers and re-signing him once it was clear he’s key to what they’re doing.

But he also made a horrendous trade up for Travis Hunter who is only pretty good on both sides of the ball and then promptly tore a ligament (showing why investing so much capital in one player is dangerous, especially if you’re wrong about him being special, and especially if you put his skinny-ass body in danger on both sides of the ball)

So, mixed bag so far. But if that team keeps ascending it will be because of Coen salvaging the horrible contract the previous regime gave to Trevor Lawerence by actually developing him and putting him in a scheme that makes his life much easier.
 
One peculiar issue from this draft I've observed thus far while delving into it is an ususally large contingent of quality NT's.

Here is the benchmark for your mocks. It doesn't matter whether you trade up, down or keep things the same. It is all about hitting on the selections.

Wouldn't it be great if AP's scout team prove to be the Commanders super power

Roseman trades up and down a lot. Just take one trade he did with us to trade for Cooper DeJean. He trades 50 and 53, 162 to move up for 40 and 78 and 153. So that is a trade up. He then trades back at 78 for 86 and 123. He then trades back at 86 for 94 and 132. He thens trades picks 132 and 210 for 164, 201, and a 2025 fourth rounder which ends up being pick 134 in 2025.

So he got picks 40, 94, 123, 153, 164, 201 (all 2024) and 134 (2025) for picks 50, 53, 162, 210. So while he did move up 10 spots to get DeJean he also got back 7 picks for 4 eventually by trading back three additional times. Four total trades, 1 up, 3 down, but the trade up was the highest pick where he had a legit shot at a difference maker.
 
Howie has put himself in a luxury situation. He can now do whatever he wants when drafting because he created a balanced deep roster and goes into each draft with extra selections created by smart trades and compensatory picks created from the deep roster

Without looking up the other years the 2021 draft isn't quite right. They had the #6 pick and traded back to #12. They got a bounty of picks as a result. 11 total, including an extra 1st in 2022.

In so doing they missed out on Jaylen Waddle, Peneii Sewell, Jaycee Horn, and Patrick Surtain. 3 of those are pro-bowlers. 2 of them are All-Pro, and 1 became DPOY.

They then panicked a little and traded up 2 spots for Smith (this worked out and they had a ton of draft picks remember) because they knew the Giants were going to take him at pick #11.

After the trade down of 2 spots, the Cowboys took Micah Parsons.

I'm not sure the Eagles had the best outcome with those draft moves. They still had a good draft though

If you follow that extra first they got from the Dolphins in 2022, I believe it eventually became the Jalen Carter pick in 2023.

It would. Beathard was known for finding talent in the later rounds of the draft. More picks, better chances of finding more talent. Hopefully, AP finds it. When he used our 6th rounder last year because of the ties that Norton had with the player, Kain Medrano it seemed like a miss and hopefully Medrano develops but many so-called draft experts didn't see the gleam or talent in that player. I am hoping that AP goes to work and uses his knowledge himself rather than, what it seemed to me like, pleasing a position coach of the alma mater that he (Peters and Norton) attended.
 
Jets are LOADED with picks in this draft and the next. Eager to see how they use 'em. I'm jealous.
