(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

The only one I have that says Redskins is the one my wife wears sometimes. A #11 Alex Smith that is XS so it fits her. She wore it to the Falcons game. I was wearing an Art Monk, with no Redskins on it.

Nothing surprising. Lean into the Roman theme. Nibble around the edges of Redskins branding as much as they can to keep old codgers like myself in the fold. The permanent destruction of those abominations that are the white jerseys is mainly what I ask at this point. They genuinely detract from my enjoyment of watching. I loathe them that much.

Gives us something to latch onto that also indirectly references the past. The best we can hope for at this point…and like you said hopefully the “monument” whites are tossed.

I'm the same way with the black.

I'm the same way with the black.
I will never like the black unis. I hated them initially, but not to the irrational level I hate the abominations. I now tolerate the blacks as long as they are only once or twice a year.

Ironically, the other night my son said he wanted another jersey for Christmas.

I said: "another burgundy or do you want a throwback white?
Him: "a black one. Of Bill."

It was a bit of a gut shot that he wanted a black one. However, this is as much his team now as mine. I will not tell him how to be a fan, especially since he has recently become so passionate about the team. Him yelling at the tv the other night was me at his age (13). He has been raised a Skins fan, but I think on some level he watched because that is just what we did- though there was little to cheer about. Now he loves this team and gets fired up for the good and bad in a way he hasn't in the past. Accordingly, I will hold my nose at Christmas and buy him a black jersey.

I’ve talked about it here before but some of what motivates me on this whole thing is also my 14 year old son. He also likes the black jerseys the best. The kids like the black uniforms…that’s all there is to it.

My bottom line is… I’m not letting anyone steal my joy from me. The name changed beyond my control. The brand changed beyond my control. The new uniforms are beyond my control… and that’s all there is to it. However, I’m going to refuse to allow these things to have power over me and the thing that I love. I’m going to like the new brand out of spite and I’m gonna teach my son to like the brand. I utterly REFUSE to be miserable about it or complain about it in perpetuity here or elsewhere. The Washington NFL franchise will live on, it will live on beyond everyone reading this, and there are unintended consequences for forcing this change that I believe will only be revealed through time. Not just with us but with other entities as well.

For me, the changes have as much power over your fandom as you allow them. You also have the power to walk away if you can’t live with them.

Trying to piece together the rumors, with what Harris says here:

We start with the Romans and then we go to the Native American tribes and then we go to special forces, and they all have these swords, which is like the tip of the spear. And Darrell Green came down with the spear and slammed it at the start of the 3rd quarter.”

To me,it sounds like " Romans " is a reference to what will be our new burgundy jersey uniforms, which will have a spear on the the side of the helmet.
The " Super Bowl Era " uniforms will become one of our primary uniforms along with those new burgundy uniforms..

The " special forces" is the black uniiforms

Not sure what the " Native American tribes " is referring to, but we could have another alternate uniform ( Seattle and Tampa Bay both have two different throwbacks, ie ), depending on how often we want to wear the black. Teams can wear alternates and throwbacks a total of four games per regular season.

I am totally excited to see where the spear ends up. I have to believe that it’s going on the uniforms somehow. I could see a variation on the black that instead of the numbers on the helmet uses a spear. The W remains the primary logo with the spear on the alternate helmet.

I would be pleasantly surprised if a spear is featured more prominently than on an alternate uniform.

I can’t help but wonder also is there a “sword” coming as well? Was that a slip?

I finally ordered my new "W" ball cap yesterday, finally found what I wanted. It's pink with the W in burgundy & supposed to be here by the 7th (for $8.99 shipping). :cuss:

My pink hat with the "real" logo on it is finally beat. I think I put it through it's last hey-day at the game, sweat my ass off (not literally, unfortunately) walking back to the train.

At this point, it’s difficult to discern what he literally means by what he figuratively means. We are all gonna have to wait to see what they have in store, but it’s fun to speculate. Speculation also leads to disappointment. I’m prepared for either one lol. However, for many spears and swords on the old uniforms or in a new logo are going to be better than what we currently have. ⚔️

I'm more of a "feather" gal. The spear reminds me of FSU, and I'm a native Gator, born the year Spurrier won the Heisman.
And not to be repetitive, but there's the whole name change thing associated with that nasty school. :wall:

Hey, we could use one as long as it’s a “Roman” or “special forces” feather…right?

😏

And not to be repetitive here either, but I’m not really sure why the pressure has changed so much on this issue. Quite honestly, I think many of the opposition saw how upset so many were over the change to the Washington and Cleveland teams that they have decided to back off for a while. And no matter how anyone feels on the issue, the simple truth was our team was the most obvious for this. Cleveland just decided to get ahead of it.

There are subtleties everywhere else that make other Native American themed teams less of a target. You mentioned FSU. They have an arrangement with the Seminole tribe. Other teams didn’t have a “dictionary defined” racial slur for a name. Most other teams don’t have a completely incompetent moron for a prior owner, who made all the wrong decisions on this issue (and others) which made him extremely difficult to defend on anything.

I don’t think the issue is completely dead. I just think it’s going away for a while.
