Rex to Start?

What is there to evaluate about Rex Grossman? He's been in the league for seven years. He's a career backup. If he plays a few good games, that will make him a backup that played a few good games.

well...it may be a better PR move. Better than having DM standing in gear on the sidelines with all the cameras on him (I'm assuming the number 3 QB is inactive for the game).

You guys act like you've never over or understimated a situation, had to reevaluate and go in a different direction.

I mean, Shanny is human isn't he?

Is he the answer to fixing this club? Don't know that yet. At least I don't.

Just how long does a new coach get to right a club that's roster has been mismanged for 10+ years?

IMO, one year isn't long enough.
 
I'm not gonna talk....but here's a good quote from Chris Cooley:

Cooley also downplayed the idea that this would cause or contribute to any kind of locker room rift. "I care a lot about this team, but I'm not going to be divided," Cooley said. "I'm going to be indifferent to the decisions made, and -- in my opinion -- because I trust our head coach, believe that he's doing what he feels is best for this team, and I'm gonna try to help that as much as possible."

McNabb is #2 this week, against to Girlz.

For the last two games, Beck will be #2.

That's what Shanny said on the radio.

why not? we are benching Mcnabb against the pies anyway, may as well "see" the young guys all play. lol except when you bring in all the young guys at once, you dont see how they would play surrounded by starting calibre players.

No need for any big rant here, but as I said earlier, I believe Shanny is done. 1 and done wouldn't surprise me in the least bit. 2 and done, I am certain of. I honestly can't imagine how he could have possibly done any worse this season.

Well, I am not going to discount Rex just because he is Rex. He could possibly improve, or at least hold down the position while we bring along a rookie, which is my guess at what is going on. Of course, he could fail.

There was plenty of film on Jake Plummer before he became a Bronco as well. He held on to the job for a couple of years, nothing great, but solid. When he was a Cardinal, he never had a passer rating over 79.6. As a Bronco, his first three years were 91.2, 84.5, and 90.2. I usually do not put much stock into QB ratings, but the guy improved. His average interceptions dropped from 19 avg., a year to 11.75. All four seasons, he was a winning QB. He threw for over 3,000 yards twice in six seasons with the Cardinals and twice in four years with the Broncos. His average yards per pass went from 6.41 to 7.1 (not major). He never had one year of more than 60% passing with the Cardinals, he had two with the Broncos.

My point here is, Plummer did better with a change of scenery and different coaches. It is possible Grossman will do the same.

Plummer held down the fort until Cutler came along. Maybe, the Shanny's are thinking about the same thing with Grossman.
 
Well, Jason Campbell is in Oakland, so Grossman was the only logical choice to start this week. :)

I'm so flabbergasted by this move I don't know exactly what to think. At first glance, it appears Shanahan has lost his mind. Can he actually think Grossman gives this team a better chance to win? Why, in God's name, would you sign the guy to an extension just to piss him off to the point where there is absolutely NO CHANCE he'll be back next year?

The real clincher is you give up draft picks for a guy who is learning a new system after 11 years in his old one, which included Pro Bowls, NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl appearance, and you surround him with a suspect supporting cast and then bench him with four games left in the season. And you bench him when he's on pace to set the team's single season passing record. And you replace him with a career backup. Sure the career backup also has a Super Bowl appearance but that's an anamoly compared to the rest of his career.

I never wanted McNabb in the first place and have had a hard time rooting for him but the guy has handled himself with class and, as far as I can tell, has done everything expected of him other than produce miracles. Why give the HC a couple of years to prove himself but not give the veteran QB a full season to learn the system?

You bench the guy against the Lions because he either doesn't have the conditioning or he doesn't know the two-minute drill. He proved against the Bucs he can handle the two-minute drill and his conditioning seemed fine.

So why is Shanahan doing all of this? Is he trying to improve the draft position? Is he trying to see what he has in the young guys and backups in preparation of blowing up the team?

The has to be a method to his madness, right? Right?

What a frustrating and embarrassing time to be a Redskins fan. :(
 
No he just thinks that he can pretty much do whatever he wants with no consequences. funny, he is getting kudos for benching Mcnabb from some pundits because " its showing he is willing to admit when he has made a mistake" but anyone who actually follows this team knows our troubles are far greater than any ONE player, and if he was really willing to admit a mistake, AH would be dressed and we would be running a 4-3 next week.

He's the head coach and VP of football operations, so yeah, he can do whatever he wants here. It's his team.

He seriously overestimated the talent here.

I can't fault him for that because the majority of Redskins fans have been doing just that for years.

If this is a serious " Crap, let's back up and go the other way" moment (and I believe it is) then we're getting ready to embark on something never seen in Snyder's tenure here: a rebuild.
 
I finally get off the wait list for season tickets and this is the way Shanahan repays me. FML.

I'm sorry. I'm just having flashbacks to eight months ago when people were saying that Shanahan appeared and magically made Elway into a Superbowl winner and that's why we traded for McNabb. So now here we are, less than a full season later saying that Shanahan magically made Plummer into an ok QB and that's why we're benching McNabb? Are we REALLY going to use the same rationalization twice in less than a year in order to justify why our team continues take more and more steps backwards while the front office aimlessly flails about?

Rex Grossman is not close to the five year starter that Plummer was when he joined the Broncos. Plummer was never an elite QB, but he was always considered starting calibre. Grossman ... I was surprised we even signed him as a backup. He couldn't even keep a starting job on a playoff team, let alone a team as sorry and no-account as the Cardinals.

And as far as the notion that Grossman might be able to 'at least hold down the position while we bring along a rookie,' wasn't that one of the justifications for signing a 33 year-old McNabb when were supposed to be rebuilding? I mean, can't McNabb at least hold down the fort? Or did we trade away a second and a third or fourth for a guy who can't even do that?

Somebody please give me a reason for this that makes sense. 'Shanahan's magical coaching' doesn't work. 'We need to evaluate Grossman as a potential future of the team' doesn't make ANY sense. 'Grossman could hold down the fort' doesn't make any sense. What is it? What could we possibly hope to gain from doing this? Because no matter what happens now our brand new shiny non-Ceratto front office either made a colossal blunder at the most important position on the team when they signed McNabb, or they are making one right now. Or, most likely, both.

And I have just about run out of patience when it comes to our front office making huge mistakes.
