Random Thoughts

A tiny bit premature to share, but I'm going to have contract talks with a publisher about my novella tomorrow :D

Oh you tease! Should I tell my dog I have treat but you are just going to have to wait?
A contract was offered. My Jewish Fantasy Noir is now slated to be published in 2026.

I had a two hour Zoom meeting with the publisher and editor in chief today to talk vision, money, distribution, and marketing. It's going to be put out by a small, but respected science fiction press.

Excited about this one. It's basically Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets The Yiddish Policeman's Union.

That's so cool, very excited for you. Do you know enough about this to negotiate these things?

A fool would answer yes. So, I’ll say yes. 😀

So, I’ve done some research on the average advances to be expected, royalty percentages, and some important things to look for like audio rights and the daydream stuff like if a movie or streaming service wants to do an adaptation.

That said, I will probably ask a lawyer to give it a once over because it’s easy to miss things and even easier not to think of things that are missing.

(Sharing too much) The only thing that worries me a little is that (as with most small presses these days) they're probably going to need to do a round of social fundraising for the project. Often, this is great because readers usually get cool goodies like a copy of the book before publication, artwork, etc., but there's always the fear that it won't fund.

But today is a day for exuberance and not handwringing :D

Congrats brother - it’s great when talent gets recognized!

I feel the same for you. BGO is flourishing largely because of what you and your team built :)

Talking with my EVP this week.

I think I am going to move to the Dominican Republic in about a year. Work remotely, acquire some properties and get ready to call it a day in a few years.

It's warmer outside than inside here. We've got some storms on the way, but dayum. I just opened the window to air out the room!

Hopefully everyone stays safe with this weather. A lot of wind in the southeast right now with storms on the way.

I couldn't believe I slept through the whole night, never heard a thing, lol

Well, the closing on the house is done, just waiting for the wire transfer of FUNDS now. I was more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs when I got there.

Why exactly has this post not received more Likes? This sounds like a great plan Red.

So an interesting development yesterday. We saw a wounded coyote by our shed this morning. Wife believes she saw it walk through the gate up from the field. I went down, dog stayed inside, and it dissapeared under the shed. Upon inspection it appears as if he may live there. Just great. A call to DNR has not been returned and reaching them could become problematic.

While walking the dog tonight we witnessed the ‘rapid unscheduled disassembly’ of the SpaceX Starship. We had absolutely no idea what in the hell it was at the time. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just saw that on the news and can't believe nobody was hurt or killed with debris falling from the sky.

Are you buying or selling a house?
SOLD! Closed on Wednesday, now on the hunt for something smaller. I've got 30 days to leave, buyer was awesome. I can leave what I don't want behind, terms were perfect. My realtor was the absolutely most amazing lady on the planet to negotiate it all. It was Goskins10 who helped me with everything, and I can't thank him enough.
