I am still convinced that there is a framework of a deal already in place--the ownership group wouldn't pose for that picture otherwise. There is 0% chance it is going anywhere else.
 
Sounds like Josh's efforts to build a new arena for the Sixers in Center City Philly have failed and they are focusing on a new arena at the existing sports complex there.

 
I’d say it’s inevitable, but we are talking about the DC government here.
 
I must say watching the inauguration coverage today it has been really cool seeing the bones of RFK and the DC Armory behind the Capital. I am so stoked to potentially see a new state of the art stadium there in a few years. Returning to that site would be awesome.

Just seeing the stadium and remembering my few visits gives me chills. Saw a high scoring win against the Lions there with my dad (RIP these long years), a preseason game vs. the Jets (did a bus trip from Richmond), and another game that I'm blanking on. Also saw the USMNT win an exhibition against Germany.
 
RFK is a beautiful stadium. A prime example of Midcentury Modern design. It kills me to see it falling apart like it is.

The Skins, DC United, the Grateful Dead, the Nats, Metallica, Old Timers Games, etc. Tons of memories.
 
I know you can't see the west side of the stadium in that picture, but does anyone know how many parking spaces there were at RFK compared to the Landover stadium?

And it was so good to have the Metro station relatively close instead of a mile away.
 
I only went once - my Dad (RIP) took me to a Senators game. It was "binder day" and I got a white 3-ring binder with the team logo on the front. The sad part is I was really young (5 or 6) and needed glasses or was blind as a bat. I still didn't wear them all the time like I do now, and somehow I misplaced them right before we had to leave for the drive to the game. So, it's a very blurry memory for me. I wish I could have seen it properly.

I really believe it’s over. The stadium is going to be at RFK and the team is investing in Landover by possibly moving their headquarters there to anchor a business district. I could be wrong but I really think that’s the way this is going to go. Ashburn turns into a training camp facility.

I tend to agree. Pacify all 3 areas. No physical football facilities in Landover, offices only. Stadium in DC and physical football facilities in NVA. Only my two cents...

Definitely some variation of this. I really am speculating, but I don’t know what else “investing in Landover” could mean.

Nothing else makes sense.
 
Man RFK was great if frighteningly steep in the upper level in the bad old days. Saw the Deion 49ers there as well as Tibetan Freedom Concert and I think an HFSTival. As with many of you, also went with my step dad to another game I can’t remember; he passed almost 25 years ago and was the catalyst for me even being a fan of the team. Brings back memories of listening to the 86 Super Bowl in a cab with him and my mom on the radio on the way back from National home to MD…anyway would be cool to come back to RFK and revisit that time period in a revitalized space. Lots of good memories.
 
RFK isn’t big enough for a stadium with NFL-sized parking.


A stadium could fit comfortably in the 100 acres; 15–40 acres is a common football-stadium footprint. The parking the Commanders are likely to demand, however, will gobble up almost all of the rest. The average NFL stadium includes about 20,000–25,000 parking spots, a target of one spot for every three seats for stadiums with a capacity of about 60,000–80,000 seats.

The NFL, in fact, requires a Super Bowl host have at minimum 35,000 parking spaces nearby, which means that any new stadium is likely going to aim for the high end of the range.

Given that 100 acres would only cover the lowest end of that parking estimate, surface parking lots are a non-starter, leaving parking garages as the only option. At about 100–150 spaces per acre per floor, 25,000 spots would require up to 50 acres of five-story garages, covering half of RFK’s developable land in parking structures. Pairing the NFL-standard parking with even the very smallest stadium, about 15 acres, leaves 35 acres. Roughly accounting for the roads necessary to move 25,000 cars around reduces the total remaining space to about 20 acres.

Twenty acres is not going to make true Bowser’s assertion that all things are possible at RFK.

Would be a reasonable compromise. I really miss the days of live reports from training camp at Dickinson College; especially the fluff pieces about who was rooming with who, the pranks being played, etc.
