Rate Our 2020 Redskins Draft

What grade do you give Kyle Smith and Ron Rivera's 2020 NFL Draft effort?

Just going off what I think we left on the table, not because I know anything about the players chosen in the 5th round...

B-

Rounds 1-4: A+
Round 5: F
Round 7: B

This could probably be higher since the first 4 picks weigh heavier than the bottom rounders, but I am a little upset we didn't take a few players still available, especially the TE's we didn't take in the 5th.

I say B+. Getting the best player in the draft definitely helps bump that up. I also like everything I heard about our mid round picks. The late round picks, as long as they didn't pick a K or P, I'm fine with it. I don't know most of those guys, so I have to trust those in charge that they saw something. I am disappointed they didn't get a TE, but I didn't want them taking a TE just to take one. It needs to be the right one, so my hope is that there wasn't one they liked at the time they picked.

That's good. I figured they would sign a TE or 2 as an UDFA. I have not seen the list yet, so I don't know who else they got. But wasn't Moss the one with a foot fracture at the combine?

Me, too. Considering that they selected the consensus #1 player in the draft (even though it didn’t take a neurosurgeon to make that selection) with the first pick, I can’t begin to fathom an overall D through 4 rounds.

Especially as things turned out...Miami was confident that Tua would be there at 5 so any trade down was not really worth it...and was less likely to happen that all the trade down warriors believed. There really was no trade down that was attractive enough...not even the rumor about the Falcons wanting Chase.

I believe we have the worst, or second worst roster in the league. Even after drafting Young, Vegas has us as big favorites to have the worst record in the league.

Imho, the second we drafted Young we threw away this season. We need 8 starters, not 1. Having Khalil Mack on your team doesn't mean playoffs. Nor OBJ, S. Barkley or 10 others we can all name, if the rest of the team blows.

Fitz has been an all-pro for like 10 years now? Who cares? What has that done for Arizona.

We have one of the youngest rosters in the league. By definition, it will take time to assess these young guys but we do have some promising ones - a lot of them actually. We blew it up after a 3 win season - of course Vegas isn't betting on us this year - why would they?

Young wasn't our only pick - even if you want to belittle his potential impact.

You don't rebuild a roster in one offseason Mike. I think beating on them because they can't seems a little much.

I hear this a lot. Any good college coach in America - if they decide to shut down an impact player - can shut down an impact player. It happens at the pro level as well. Should we cherry pick a game or two where he looked dominant and claim he'll be a HOFer based on it?

Because that would have about the same validity

He was not doubled in that game. He was handled by this kid Carman.

To your point about needing numerous guys, not 1 Mike... I was in favor of a trade down, and Rivera/Smith verbalized a willingness to listen to offers. But we didn't get any great offers. Everyone preaches 'trade down!' but the reality of it is that most teams are very reluctant to give up a ton of picks even for a highly touted player. We all know, it only rarely happens, and it's almost always for a QB. Everyone knew we weren't going to give up on Dwayne Haskins after 7 ****ing games and so there was no need for someone to move up to #2 to get a QB. Pretending that was going to happen and criticizing them because it didn't - seems like an overreaction.

You think Chase Young was a risky pick, but suggest they should've drafted Tua? I'd have been fine with them drafting Simmons. I think he was probably the next guy on their board. But Young was rated the absolute player in this draft by nearly every NFL expert in America. Hardly a suspect pick by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not even one of those who was on the CY hype train guys. But if he's not the best player in this draft, there are a lot of NFL experts we're calling idiots. Sorry - I gotta go with folks who get paid to evaluate.
