Random Commanders Thoughts

Redskins have now gone 3 straight games without a TD for the first time in their 88-year history.

--Andrew Siciliano

It's funny. I remember the 2004 Redskins, thinking that team had the worst Redskin offense I'd ever seen. It was 31st in scoring and 30th in yards. I think we led the league in 3-and-outs too. We averaged 15 points and game.

We only failed to score a TD once that season.

Snyders dumb ass will trade all of next years picks to the Dolphins in order to move up to the #1 spot and get a LT. Because you know, with a NEW LT AND Alex Smith coming back, we're headed to the SUPER BOWL BABY! Oh, and he'll trade Trent away for an 8th round pick in 2030 and a ham sammich.

LOL! This post me mad, sad, and cracks me up all at the same time. So true...

I'm really shocked by how bad this defense is playing. I really expected more from what I see as a pretty talented group. Plenty of bad coaching for sure, and I know they get zero help from the offense, but at some point you expect them to just get pissed and play.

It's 3rd and 15 and my secondary's kind of suspect. Hmm...let's drop Payne and Sweat into coverage and give the QB all day to throw.- Greg "Rush 3" Manusky

On the Beasley td it seems Dunbar is playing 5 yards off, and the Bills were already on the damn 6 yard line. Agree though we need a defensive coach who can actually call the correct play as well as discipline those who are routinely out of position.

On the bright side, Haskins didn't throw an interception so there's that.

Here's a fun little fact, today the skins were 2 for 11 on 3rd down. For the year we're converting 3rd down only 23% of the time. That's 31st out of 32 teams, only the Jets are worse.

Things we're also fantastic at...
Points per game...31st
Yards per game...31st
Passing yards per game...31st
Rush yards per game...25th (still time to lower that one)
Offense T.O.P....32nd
Offensive scrimmage plays...29th

This offseason every Gruden playbook and shred of film need burned in holy fire. All film rooms need sanitized with bleach as well

Redskins receiver Paul Richardson said, "The message can't keep being, 'We're close, we're close.' The message can't be I'm proud of your guys' effort, get ready for next week. We have to put points on the board, put touchdowns on the board. That's what wins at this level." The Redskins haven't scored a touchdown in their last 13 quarters.

What?!!!! TDs win games? Who knew!!!

Not directed at you McD5.

That won't accomplish much. The Skns have been a rudderless ship for a long, long time. The folks at the top are lost in space - they couldn't build a franchise if their lives depended upon it.

Our rudderless ship needs the scurvy sanitized away before we can re-crew it. We most definitely need a new Harbormaster to seek out this proper crew or we'll just end up with the same scurvy we can't seem to shake for 27 years and counting. The old harbormaster probably deserves a good old fashioned keelhauling to boot.

I wanted so bad for Callahan to take a hold of this team and turn it around to get them headed in the right direction. I freely admit I was completely wrong. It's as if the team refuses to respond to any current coach on the roster. The commitment to the run game is a very welcomed change, but the passing game is what a hot mess wipes it's ass with.

The only way we're going to hire away top brass from a well run organization is if Dan puts a 'no meddling' clause into a well paid contract for the new GM. I can't see a self respecting GM type agreeing without one. Mike Borgonzi from the Chiefs is my vote at the moment. He can bring Bienemy to HC and his brother Dave Borgonzi from the Colts to run the defense. All I need for my plan to work now is to get Dan to see my posts/suggestions in person.

So if life gives you lemons...use it to treat the scurvy?

So if life gives you lemons...use it to treat the scurvy?

Ha, yeah.

Fan mentioned a ship and my mind went straight to pirate related comparisons. This team is so maddening it makes me use pirate metaphors, none of it makes sense! Hell maybe we all have scurvy and that's what keeps us rooting for this mind altering team.

If Bruce Allen is retained for 2020, there is no doubt in my mind Alex Smith if he is cleared medically at age 38 is going to be counted on to be the 16 game starter at quarterback. Because Bruce made the trade and wants to come out of that on the other side.

That's one reason that Bruce has to go.

He grew up watching a different NFL under his father, George Allen, who didn't have to navigate a salary cap and free agency.

You could afford to pay a veteran who comes in and underperforms like Josh Norman and then cut him with no ramifications.

The NFL has trended younger for the past 25 years and we need to find progressive front office people that recognize that.

It's much more important for us to make sure our first and second round picks turn out and are given every chance to develop and contribute.

If we are not making the right picks then we need to know that.

You don't bury high picks like Ryan Anderson, Geron Christian, etc. on the inactive list for their rookie seasons.

Most good teams don't do that, they are able to select second and third rounders that contribute and are active.

Even though they were Super Bowl champions, the Patriots have a number of rookies active on their club.

Look at what the Ravens have been able to do with Lamar Jackson who was taken #30 overall.

They completely changed their offense when they benched Flacco.

You can't tell me this staff couldn't have come in and gotten this done with Haskins before Week 9.

But again, it goes back to the owner and Brucie.

If you take a quarterback at #15 you are essentially admitting to everyone you have a team that is not ready to contend.

Teams a player or two away from dreams of a Super Bowl are filling holes at OL or at CB that high.

When the decision was made to draft Haskins either Gruden had to be told he was being expected to go with a rookie and get him ready OR the team should have fired him.

Gruden actually had one extra year, 2020, on his contract and so he was not technically a lame duck.

He could have worked with and prepared Haskins or Jones or whomever in 2019 with the thought he was going to be able to benefit from his investment of time in Year 2 with that quarterback.

So, that's one element of BS that's been out there.

Looks like Guice is going to be activated next week. It's a good chance to give him the platform to prove he's worth keeping in the off-season after 3 seasons with 3 knee injuries, 2 of which significant time was lost.

If he makes it more than an entire game, count your lucky stars LOL!

It would be great to see him succeed, but I hope the Redskins will move on from him if he cannot stay on the field for the rest of the season.

If I were him, I'd probably wait until the season is over, then work toward the beginning of next year.

Is he coming back too soon to try to prove something?

If I were the team I would really scrutinize Guice and the timing of his return.

He admitted that he failed to inform coaches of his injury at the beginning of the season and that was coming off the torn ligament the previous preseason!

I would send him to Andrews to get the okay to put him in uniform.

There's no rush to getting him on the field on a 1-8 team where Adrian Peterson already has to make a lot of his yards on his own.

BTW, Pro Football Focus has given Flowers and Penn subpar marks for run blocking so far this season so the earlier reports that Flowers was a revelation were evidently a bit overblown.

Yeah, I gotta think that the expectation was terrible, so serviceable at best was a win.

So, Trent Williams is now on the non-football injury list and is out for the remainder of the season.

No matter how long I live I won't understand why we didn't trade Williams before or during the season.

All of what has transpired the past two weeks was needless distraction and embarrassment for the organization.

Bruce Allen was no custodian for the welfare of the Redskins.

Paying this guy for the next 7 weeks for doing nothing but watching TV at home is somehow a victory?

Yeah, it cost him $7M in bonus and salary but from 8 plus years in the NFL he has the money.

I suppose Bruce thought the player would cave as soon as he missed a game check.

Poor judge of the circumstances, I could have told him Trent wasn't coming back here to play football.

He was going to do the minimum necessary to qualify as a free agent after 2020 and that was all.

So, now we are going to no doubt trade him for a #4 draft pick in April and declare victory
