Maybe we should hold off on the Action Doctson nick-name for a couple reasons seen tontie...

- I saw during a commercial break there's a college player already nick-named Action Jackson
- and not much action we've seen from Doctson thus far

Biggest reason the 2016 team isn't going to improve on 2015. It's not the loss of Junior Gallette or DeAngelo Hall.

It's the lack of impact this draft class is projecting to have based on camp, preseason and now 4 games into the season.

Among the 7 picks, only Su'a Cravens looks like he is going to make a noticeable contribution in 2016.

Docston failed to tell the team about his achilles and continued to workout on it in the offseason and now his rookie year looks like a wash.

But even if he was healthy he was slated to be the team's #4 receiver.

Third round pick Kendall Fuller was on the inactive list until the rash of injuries at cornerback. Since calling him a 'first round grade' after the draft, I really haven't seen or heard anything about Fuller that makes me believe we have a rare ruby here at cornerback.

We traded the #4 pick away.

The #5 pick, Ioannidis, a college DE was drafted to play NT/DT (??), didn't show much during camp and was cut. He was resigned to the practice squad and recently made it back up to the 53 man roster as the 'last' guy on the bench.

The #6 pick, Nate Sudfeld, is in a suit and tie.

The #7 picks, Steven Daniels and Keith Marshall, didn't look as if they were going to make the final 53 man roster and are both currently on injured reserve until the 2017 offseason.

So, for a team that didn't do much to improve the roster in the months of free agency leading up to the draft, and overall outside of the late signing of Josh Norman after his surprise release from Carolina, we are dealing with much the same team we had in 2015.

While there are certainly younger players from that team that are improving (Moses, Scherff, Crowder, Long, Jones, Hopkins, etc.), the point is the momentum provided from that class of rookies and younger players in 2015 is not being augmented in 2016 by another strong surge in new talent.

Meanwhile, you can look at New England where the Patriots have been able to cut veterans like Terrance Knighton, Bryan Stork and Jonathan Cooper because they have recent picks (including 2016) that continue to come in and take over starting roles.

The Redskins coming off 2015 had some definite holes on the roster and one would think a strong draft class would have placed 2 or 3 of those players in the starting lineup or close to it early in the season.

Instead most of the guys from 2016 have been on the inactive list or are stashed on IR with the hope of growth and improvement in 2017.

I hope that's not the true definition of BPA.....................................

Because if it is perhaps we should have looked at our team and our weaknesses coming out of 2015 and gone into the draft with a cheat sheet looking for a DT, OC, S, and ILB.

We continue to avoid drafting a defensive lineman or inside linebacker with size early in the draft.

While taking a cadillac receiver sounds nice, the reality is the Broncos, Patriots, Seahawks and other contending teams traditionally don't spent #1 picks on wideouts.

Yeah, no doubt, after 4 ****ing games we should line all the draft picks up, with Mr McCloo next to them, and kill every goddamn one of them.

Jeezus! Dan Snyder has more patience than some of you "GM's".
 
You're all over the map Ax. You're preaching patience?

Bulldog - I can't argue most of that, although I think you're wrong on Gallette - no comparing his loss to Halls. If Gallette's healthy, he immediately makes this defense better.

When your GM purportedly is a BPA guy, this is what you will get. You can't bemoan the immediate lack of impact of a single draft class, because the philosophy isn't about short term improvement. I'm not sure the Doctson pick works out, and you're right, some of the other picks look like questionable ones. But I think it's too early to say for sure.

After Denver took him in the first round(yes, they do take WRs 1st round), this is what Demariyus Thomas was:

Thomas was plagued by injuries during his rookie season. He first missed playing time due to a forearm injury and a concussion; an ankle injury also rendered him inactive for five more games late in the season.

We will live. That one pick is not indicative of anything other than that our office believed he was the best player to take at that point. He may be a guy we rely on in the years to come. I know hot takes are a blast, but damn people, give the guy a chance to show us beyond the immediate and who knows, he may just be a solid contributor when it matters. I'm pretty sure all the realistic people realize that this year we don't need him to put us over the top, as we likely won't be there yet.
 
I have no problem with the BPA approach. Fans need to understand, it could take 5 years of drafting to have a roster with no significant holes going BPA (generally - I don't think any GM truly goes with BPA with no consideration of needs whatsoever). That being said, there is luck involved in drafting, no matter the strategy, or the genius of the GM making the picks. An achilles injury is not a forearm or an ankle. It remains to be seen if Docston just has a nagging injury or something that is going to result in this being a disastrous pick.
 
So, the WR's aren't any different than last years were without Doctson, right? It really shouldn't make a huge difference - more of the difference was the plan to change the offense to 100% vertical at the beginning of the year.

You generally give a WR 2 years to see if they get it. Hopefully Josh will be ahead of that curve but that's the norm. So I would not have earth shattering expectations for him this year and any big impact would be a bonus. Fuller (taken just before Doctson) has played exceptional at times. He's also made several rookie mistakes. You expect the last one one and take the first one. How about Treadwell (taken after Doctson)? He's literally done nothing. And if a guy's injured, don't know what you can do but wait. We are probably a little snake bit by Hankerson but he didn't cause the team to self-destruct.

CB, another position you give 2 maybe 3 years to. Fuller led the team in tackles last week so it's not like he didn't contribute. He's a rook - yeah other teams are going to go after him but at least he's making tackles and not penalties. There's time to learn some of the finer points of pass defense, get the basics, learn the speed of the game. He'll be fine.

Ioannidis - he played a little NT in college - enough to show it wasn't his position. The staff has to take responsibility for that. They knew what he was before they drafted him - there's nothing shocking here. Some of this defensive personnel stuff is starting to look like they are going to more guys lining up in the middle in some manner in the near future.

If the Redskins cut the kind of players that NE is willing to part with, the fans here would go ballistic. I have no problem with that and the Pats always seem to make out. Maybe they're just better managing talent than most teams. Down to their 3rd string rookie QB and without the best TE in the league - they still won. Partly because they work with what their guys can do. Let the kid run the ball - nobody expects a QB for NE to run to start with and it's something he can do. I don't expect to see anything like that from the Redskins.
 
The #Redskins are without first-round pick WR Josh Doctson today, and I’m told it’ll be a few more weeks. But they think he can avoid IR.

I think he will be shut down within the next couple of weeks or less. Achilles injuries are no joke and we need him to be ready in 2017.
