Report: Joey Galloway signed by Redskins
Updated at 9:54 p.m.:

The Redskins have agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Joey Galloway, according to a league source.

Galloway, 38, is a 15-year veteran who would provide leadership for a mostly young receiving corps if he makes the roster. He signed a one-year deal with the team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Galloway began last season with New England but played in only three games and was released in October. Pittsburgh picked him up late in December but he didn't appear in any games for the Steelers.

Galloway, who is joining his sixth NFL team, was with the Buccaneers when Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen was running Tampa Bay's front office.

Interesting...I'd have to assume he'll fill the Todd Pinkston role, just go deep.

I didn't realize he was still playing. I'd have to assume he'll fill the Keenan McCardell role, act as an assistant WR coach and catch about 10 balls.

Does this acquisition suggest that Shanahan is not content going into the season with the current group of WR's?

I think Shanahan is not thrilled with group of WR's on the roster. My guess is he is probably not too high on Thomas and Kelly. They will really have to prove themselves this year.

Just hope Galloway hasn't lost a step. Like WP said, will probably put him in the slot. Can only imagine Galloway and Moss both told to go long. With their speed the FS has a hard choice which way to go.

Right now my biggest concern is we don't lose Blondie to the Raiders. When saw Cartwright signed with them got concerned. Think we need to extend her contract.

Come to think of it, she hasn't been around since the news broke:paranoid:

And you all said we weren't making long term moves for the future ... shame on you.

Seems like a strange signing on the surface. Galloway '10 ain't Galloway '00 ... don't see him scaring too many DB's with his downfield blazery any more. Only way it seems to make sense at first blush is as a veteran presence, with experience in systems similar to the one we'll be implementing here (haven't done the homework on that though), to help transition the youngsters and maybe, if his legs allow it, provide the occasional cagey veteran 3rd down option this season sure to draw single coverage.

i like this move...my guess is he is here to teach those 2nd round (about to be busts) how to study and watch film.

Wow, kinda old. Hasn't he lost a step or two? I wouldn't be surprised to see him cut during training camp if he can no longer hack it.

Well, the one thing we like is a down field threat. Joey is being brought in to see if he can still do that. If not, he doesn't make it to training camp. I got no problem with it. DG could still do it at 40 so......who knows. He, like the 1,000 other guys we have signed, will get a chance to prove that they still got it.

Neither Galloway or Bobby Wade have ever been confused for a #1 WR in their day. These guys are fighting for the 4th and 5th WR spots, and are probably just training camp bodies.

why ? how many recievers do we have on the rooster at this minute....and the average age has got to be 30ish.....

Disagree with Galloway. In Tampa Bay a few years ago, he single handedly took over a few games for them and won them. Now that was several years ago, but at one point he was a viable number one.

He had a 1200 yard, 10 TD season in Tampa in 2005. Outside of that, his numbers have been fairly pedestrian. One season out of 15 a #1 WR does not make. :)

Galloway is like Santana Moss. He's a deep threat WR that should be a #2 but who will occasionally put up #1 numbers. Of course he's eight years older than Moss. I'm not really sure where a 39 year old that relies primarily on his speed to make plays fits in to our scheme. I can only assume he's here to mentor the young guys.
