Random Commanders Thoughts

San Diego, Buffalo, Cincinnati as well as Minneapolis have longer streaks.

Some cities have a more recent title but that ONE constitutes the only one they have in their history - see the 2009 New Orleans Saints, 1995 Atlanta Braves, Arizona (Phoenix) Diamondbacks in 2001, etc.

To me it's not the lack of a title per se, but the inability to take advantage of the available opportunities!

The Nationals had the best record in the National League in both 2012 and 2014 and couldn't even win ONE playoff series.

The Capitals twice, in 2009 and 2015, had the best record in the NHL and couldn't duplicate what 'cinderella' teams like the LA Kings and others did to win championships coming from much further back in the pack.

That's what is really frustrating about Washington's recent sports history.

If all 4 of the teams in town were awful year in and year out and didn't really contend for a division title or playoff berth, the expectations would not be there.

But that's not the case here.

I can't find it, but a few years ago, as the Nats were losing another series to a lesser team in the postseason, someone showed me a graphic of cities whose teams had the longest drought of even making it to a conference championship game. Washington was at the top by a long shot.

All I'm trying to say is we're due. :)

I am getting really sick and tired of the 'Is Kirk Cousins going to sign before July 15' articles we are seeing almost everywhere on the web and TV broadcasts. No one has 'new' news to report on the story, only re-hashing the same BS.

Chris Russell is out there on 106.7 blogs writing about how not signing Cousins before the 2016 season will result in the very clear possibility of a financial Armageddon destroying the Washington Redskins in 2017 assuming he has a good season.

Of course if we give Cousins a big contract now and he gets injured in 2016 or doesn't match his 2015 production, Russell will come back and say we paid for a pig in a poke.

I never liked Russell when he was on ESPN 980 and now that he's over at 106.7 I have that same old feeling coming back again :D

He's another one of those guys who takes a pregnant pause every third word because he has nothing to say and needs to eat time.

Cousins signs a long-terms deal and shits the bed next season, Russell will be one of the first condemning the contract.

Russell is a little 'full of himself', started dismissing his commentary about the same time Djax came in.... reminded me a lot of Wilbon and his antics after Sean Taylor was shot.

Wilbon...he an Kornhoser are pitiful to listen to. Definitely not worth the time reading their garbage.

I was done with them a long time ago...when they intentionally display disdain for their viewers/listeners...it's time to stop listening to them. What ever happened to the George Michaels of the world?

I'm thinking if our offense could master a sugar or no-huddle we'll be in top 5 easily. Gonna give opposing coordinators fits!

Completely agree on these 2 dickheads.

Closest thing to cheerleader we've got nowadays is John Keim

Been having that thought too. I think we're going to see a healthy does of it once the regular season starts ... but of course not a whiff in the preseason. Would not be surprised at all to see us break it out early against Pittsburgh in the opener.

I think Kirk has the quick release and decision/making to be a very effective point guard. The receiving options he's going to have at his disposal will make it tough for defenses to focus on particular guys or zones--they're going to have to play the entire field. Including, one hopes, having to spread out enough to help our running game become at least a viable threat.

This is the most excited I've been for the start of football season in awhile. I'm counting down the days until TC!

Our first training camp practice is exactly 30 days from today.

We just have to hang in there in the meantime.

Days until Redskins Training Camp 2016:
