You can work the cap if the players you invest top money in produce at a high level.

It's when you do what the Redskins did with Adam Archuleta or Haynesworth and give out a wheel-barrow full of money to players that don't have anything left and are a half a step away from being out of the league.

If Josh Norman lives up to his 2015 performance for the next 2-3 years his signing has served its purpose.

With a long-term deal for Cousins, the release of Garcon/Jackson in 2017, and the likely departures of Perry Riley, Kory Lichtensteiger and some other vets, the Redskins are going to actually have money to spend even with the move for Norman.
 
This may seem way off topic and well out of place, but I felt this was the best place to post.

I have not been diagnosed with depression, but im pretty sure at this point I have it. Its a rough feeling when your are at your best, feeling good, have a great day. Then suddenly it all comes crashing down and you don't know why. You feel bummed and just want to lay down and do nothing. At least till it passes.

There is one thing that seems to get me through the tough moments of it. Thats this football team.

When I was old enough to follow along with football, I was one of those nerdy types that refused to watch sports because it went against what I liked. If I liked sports, then I must not this right? Thats how I felt in high school. I was excited for Houston getting a team back in the 2000s, but after that draft of passing up Vince Young, I couldnt watch them. I pretended to have interest, but I never watched a game. I bought football hats of SB winners, but knew nothing about them.

In 2008 I met my soul mate during a redskins game. Back when we went 8-8 with Zorn. I cheered even though I had no idea who anyone was. I rooted for something that I felt completely isolated from. Every year after, I pushed myself to get deeper in. Watch the games, view the draft, read on players. To the point I bought a jersey and wore it everywhere (Too bad that jersey was later stolen and pawned off)

It helped a lot. When that depressed feeling would hit its hardest, I would go to nfl.com and read a story or two on the redskins and start to feel better. Feel invested. Feel hope when we have a chance.

Its now 2016 and ive never been so invested into something because it makes me happy. It brings a joy of supporting something that thousands and thousands support with me. I get mad at teams I never had before. I call out all our players by name.

In short. The Redskins football team has saved me.
 
Wow. Wasn't expecting that one. I will be interested to see how the contract is structured, particularly with his injury history.

Scot is not playing around though, that much is for sure.

Disagree. I believe the FO actually means what it says about drafting BPA.
 
Well, if we are going to sign guys to big contracts I'd rather it be one of our own.

That said, that's a lot of money. I'm interested to see the breakdown.
 
As to the Reed signing, this falls right in line with Scot's mantra about "taking care of our own." They're gambling a bit given the injury history--of most concern would be the concussions--but assuming the structure of the contract has injury-related exit ramps built in, plus how the cap next year and beyond is clearly rising, plus how Reed by the end of last season was arguably the best receiving TE in football ... this comes as good news.

Article from theScore says $22m, but who knows how much of this is signing vs roster bonus or other incentives.

So Reed is set to make, on average for 5 years, what Garçon is due this year?

Sounds good to me.
 
I read the $22 million is guaranteed. Roster, workout, and performance bonuses may factor into the rest.
 
I think Scot is smart enough to believe the 9-7 Redskins of last season were closer to 7-9 than 11-5 or 12-4.

So, he is continuing to build a roster that probably won't be complete until the end of the 2017 offseason.

By that time we will have one more year of free agency and another draft, this one with 10 picks already in the bank.

Then I think you will see the team we are going to really go to war with.

That doesn't mean we won't be competitive in 2016 but in 2017 we should be legit contenders.

Even though Marshall had injuries in school you would have figured that his dynamic speed and decent size would have lead to him being taken earlier in the draft than 15 picks to the end.

I like these late picks. Both Daniels and Marshall have a decent chance of being productive NFL players.

Too many times in the past I have looked at our sixth and seventh round picks in the draft and went ahead and put a mark through their names as early cuts in training camp.
