It's been more than one or two reports, brother. It's been a general trend, and repeated fairly often--that Robert is looking better, and appears to be making progress. Which is really all I think any of us hoped for coming off the last two years. The only thing I've questioned lately is the stance some are taking that appears to actively ignore the first positive things we've heard about Robert, from anybody, in quite some time.

None of this means there aren't still concerns ... nor does it mean the generally positive reports will translate into something obvious and positive on the field come September. But it does mean that OTA's and minicamp could have ended with his stock continuing to trend downward, instead of at least qualifiedly upward, as I believe any objective reading of the tea leaves has suggested.

I think many Skins fans are so beaten down by the accumulated disappointments of the past generation that they either cannot or will not accept that something that sounds like a positive, no matter how small, might actually be one.

- how about we table the venom for a while....enjoy the preseason and give it several games into the season before jumping back into it. If it's messed up after several games and the same ole problems manifest themselves I know I will be done with RGIII and/or Gruden. until then....let's experience real "hope and change" until reality does/does not slam the door.

if we have to go down this worn path...yet again as Big Mike points out....your assertion is pure smoke and mirrors. you have no quantitative basis for ranking ANYONE at 50, 60, or 10,000 - there's no way to discern from what you have posted how one computes a delta between 60 and 55, 70 and 60. it's a wing it since we all know you haven't looked at all the QBs to even validate that the ranking you have assigned has actual meaning/consistency. what? he's had two injuries? ok....how does that slot him into a pool of 100+ QBs? Does Brady drop because he also has had a serious injury? in short.....your rank ordering is as subjective and lacking in content/structure as any of the others. what the blank does the ranking even capture? potential? past performance? likability? injury risk? mental acuity? past success? haircut? twitter posting habits?

like it or not...gruden sinks or swims with RGIII: cuz Cousins and Boy Average McCoy aint the answer either.

many of us have adopted a hopeful outlook based on the present context:

- the alternatives aren't any better

- the coach has, to date, demonstrated an inability to teach and improve (at all positions it seems); new QB coach has a proven track record in the NFL

- there was that season of success, we know RGIII is intelligent (i.e., can learn), we know he is a great athlete

- many of the criticisms are legitimate...we know that. it gets down to whether one believes improvement can happen. now, I agree with you that one should be highly skeptical given Gruden's past performance as a teacher and motivator. but one can always expect the best...right?

How far behind in studying NFL defenses? At least 4-7 years compared to a college QB that runs a traditional offense.

How far behind the guys being called the smartest QBs on the field? Sometimes 12 years behind.

Antonor Winston dug up the notebook a while back because he knew people wouldn't believe. Even in Hueytown, the small Birmingham, Ala., suburb where he and his wife, Loretta, live, there are plenty of non-believers.

The notebook is tattered and faded, but the words are still clear. The pages are filled with carefully printed instructions written by -- as the inscription at the top of the first page reads -- Jameis Winston, Hueytown Middle School.

Page 1 begins with a list of the characteristics a good quarterback should possess: leadership, dedication, desire, mental toughness, character, confidence. It concludes with a detailed schematic breakdown of how to properly attack a Cover 2 defense.

Jameis Winston was 12 years old when he wrote it.
 
There it is...your Florida st bias coming through while you try to speak about the nfl. Your boy is still a college qb who has yet to take a single snap.

Not one.

He hasn't done squat in the NFL. He'll get accolades when he actually earns them. He's done two things in the pros to earn any so far: jack and squat. So no there's no quantifiable basis for ranking him ahead of a guy who put up the best rookie season in history for a QB. The story about a 12 year old isn't really very impressive to me, most NFL QB's have high football IQ's and in RG's case he's got a good enough head on his shoulders to NOT pull all the same crap Winston has. I got a chuckle out of this one today, you're TOTALLY objective here. :biggrin2:

That's a clear example of one QB who knows where everyone on the field will be prior to the snap, versus another QB who has no idea.

One QB knows exactly where to throw the ball, and who is most likely to be open. The other has years and years of studying to try to learn what's natural to the first QB.

One is way ahead. The other is years behind.

You haven't been in a film session with either one so you have no idea what the proficiency level is of either. Too funny...no bias? Seriously? What, are you taking up a new job as a comedian? :lol:

please stop with the "I'm a bigger fan because I watch more than you" business. We are all equally knowledgeable fans.

Why do you think Mooch is a good QB coach? Because he is on Favre's speed dial? Because he coached so well? Mooch knows as much about football as Billick or Jon Gruden does. They have television shows that people GAVE them and opinions the give you! that is it!
 
Yawn...softball. It was pretty obviously a play JW was familiar with. I've seen Gruden do the same thing with his cupcake interviews with dry erase time...big deal. Like I said they're all football smart at that level and in Griffin's case he's also got a good moral foundation and stays out of trouble off the field.

Oh I don't doubt that. I should have prefaced that post by saying that life changes have kept me out of the Redskins News area recently. I'm not doubting the number of positive reports, I was just using that particular article as an example. When I google'd RG3, this was the first 'positive' article that popped up that had actual quoted information from Gruden. I truly want in my heart for Griff to come out this year and take that step we've been praying, hoping, longing for... Having a healthy amount of skepticism is warranted imho, despite the positive reports we are 'hearing.'

Given what information is available to us in the middle of July, these are absolutely the types of things you are wanting to hear. I do absolutely love the hiring of a QB coach.... I wanted to believe Gruden could do it all but it appears like he couldn't. That being said, I also didn't want to believe that our 'franchise QB' would need to be taught the basic elements of QB play in the NFL. Things like footwork, progressions, we've heard them all. He's got this year. I think he made a huge impression on a lot of people by the way he played as a rookie, but I also think that the last 2 years should be taken into account when we honestly look at the big picture with him. We've heard great things coming out of camp A LOT of time times that end up falling short of expectations... not necessarily with Griff, but with players in general. As much as he deserves praise for 12', I feel like the critical side of that argument is warranted as well.


I'm rootin for the kid hard this year... Again, I will support him with every ounce of my fanhood as long as he has our jersey on, unconditionally.
 
Brother McD, didn't the phenom called Winston, who knows where everyone is gonna be, pre-snap, who knows where to go with the ball, throw more int's in his senior year, when he should be even smarter, if that's even humanly possible, than he did the year before? Reading college defenses, no less?

And if memory serves me, Chucky gushed over Robert pre-draft as well.

It's ok to admit you're so in the tank for Winston you can't control yourself. We know.

I can't wait for the up to the second reports on your boy during the season.

as a man with 2 kids under 2....the less I hear about pee diapers the better off I am lol
