PFT: Washington may be in the Mariota business

Gruden will be 48 in March. He's old enough to know better.
 
People keep wanting Gruden to act like Joe Gibbs.

The only problem with that, is there's only one Joe Gibbs. :)

To keep expecting any head coach the team hires to act/ become Joe Gibbs is folly.
 
Age has nothing to do with it. Shanahan was 61 years old and promoting leaks and criticisms in tit for tat with Griffin.

Here's my question - how many coaches have to battle Griffin before the front office and owner realize that Griffin is part of the problem, not the solution.

Pretty sure Robert has one last chance in DC. If he shows up for camp this summer and hasn't made clear strides in the facets of his game the whole world now knows he needs to, he won't be killing any more head coaches in this town.

I'd put money on that.
 
Well, since the current front office is the only real front office that we have had since Griffin arrived, I'd say one.

Of course Griffin is part of the problem. I'm not ready to concede that can't also be part of the solution yet. This year will tell definitively for me. Prior to the new leadership coming on (McL primarily) we've had Bruce and Jay, and Mike Shanahan who had an overinflated opinion of himself.

But it's a message board. Joining in is kinda how it's supposed to work. :) The tone of my reply sounded differently in my head than it probably reads. I heard it more as a couple buds busting each others chops and not as a personal attack. Sorry if it came across that way. I generally consider all of you friends, whether having met physically or not, due to our long painful road together. So you maybe you can forgive the over familiarity intended. That and I accidentally quoted ST when I meant to quote you. :) I've been around long enough that most should know I don't generally make snarky, attacking posts.

Griffin had an absolutely historic rookie season, was Rookie of the Year, put a crappy team on his back and dragged it to a division title a few years ago. That's the source of his rope now, not his draft status.

At this point Griffin may be broken beyond repair, but he's no Jenkins. He's not a player who never produced and never panned out. He has played at a extremely high level as a pro, higher even than Orakpo ever did, and while Griffin may never so again it's not crazy to let him play out his rookie contract to find out.
 
Unless McLovin feels otherwise in the next 5 weeks, he'll certainly get his shot.

But in the big picture, if we spent even a 3rd rounder and drafted a QB this season with 2 prior ACLs, a few concussions and a dislocated ankle? Fans would go f'n crazy. And opposing fans would laugh at us.

That's the elephant in the room.

How can a team possibly build their offense around a guy like that, believing that he'll still be playing three years from now?

you're absolutely right! they should build around a Cleveland Browns reject with neck issues and a player who believes in equal opportunity for opposing teams when it comes to passing!

So we really know what kind of player he is after six games? Really?

Anybody here remember when Mark Rypien first got onto the field?

Turnover machine. INTs and ball security issues. Just think what would've happened if we let him go after six starts.

We don't know what we have in Cousins yet. Too small of a sample size.
Put the ropes and rail down.

Yikes, McD. Thanks for pointing out the elephant before I get trampled. I was wondering what worst case could be now and you hit on it. He's on the fast track to a Tebow career. Ouch The emperor has no clothes.

exactly! Gruden needed fewer games to assess Griffin!!! I'm confused by all the shifting standards!!!

On one hand, Griffin has every right to be pissed with our organization (Shanahan).

On the other hand, he should be counting his blessings.

Chip Kelly would have sent him packing a week ago to try and learn yet another offense.

At least here he already has a year of experience with the system.
 
FWIW, my best friend was at an intimate get-together type thing at Redskins Park where GMBA took them on a tour of the practice bubble, they had a dinner there, some Q&A and such. He essentially said McLovin had no plans to draft a QB in the first round. Take that FWIW, obviously. I never once believed the Mariota talk, anyway.

No one at a meet and greet knows the Redskins draft strategy and certainly wouldn't be talking about it they did - I appreciate you sharing, but that's just someone trying to impress someone.
 
No offense but most of the tweets shared are pretty much the same but treated like trusted news sources, right?
 
Mike - nothing ntotoro said (or I said in my reply to him) had anything to do with Twitter. I'm talking from experience about the reliability of information shared to outsiders by ancillary Redskins staff. It's ridiculous to think a low or mid-level staff member knows the Redskins draft plans.

There are many folks who do have inside sources on Twitter. And there are many who don't. I don't see what that has to do with my comment.
