I'm not worried about QB vs. coaches stuff because I think Gruden is a straight shooter, and I think whatever needs to be said will stay in the lockerroom. But Griffin is going to be under a huge microscope, related to whether or not he really is a franchise QB, whether or not he can physically be the same kind of impact player he was before the injury, and whether or not he can be the long-term QB and leader of this team.
 
That's life in DC sports...

Personally (and my homer glasses are on TIGHT) that he thrives under it, shines under it, becomes the next Joey T under it charisma wise....

And wins us multiple super bowls...

OK, so Marino is a pretender, Philip Rivers is a pretender, most players from the NFL are pretenders.

Look at what Shan did without Elway, Sharpe, and Davis. His numbers steadily declined until he ended up pissing away a 4 game divisional lead and losing in week 17. Street cred? No, Elway doing the helicopter spin for a crucial 1st is cred, Davis playing thru a migraine is cred. Shanahan? He was there and not a power monger like Dan Reeves.

If second place is for first losers then you are now calling Peyton Manning a loser. If you are calling Peyton Manning a loser and think Russell Wilson is a better QB than him just let me know and we can just stop it.

Wining a game...the SB...is the end product of a series of efforts that start all the way back at the termination of the prior season. from personnel strategy, to organizing practices, to formulating offensive/defemsive strategies, etc., etc. Coaches play a key role in all of this. they are as responsible for victory as the players on the field. The head Coach above all others. Shanahan did it...twice. every team that has ever won a SB, btw, had to have quality players....

have at it if you don't like my diction! In my mind...anyone who has not won the SB yet doesn't have the cred and should be judicious in attacking the folks who have actually accomplished the one goal that mattrs in the NFL - especially a third year QB whose second season was the pits. I'm as big an RGIII homer as there is on this board. but in this circumstance...the obvious response...one which I pass in my field as well is "uh huh...so what have you accomplished?" There appears to be a Robert and an RGIII by accounts from folks who interact w/him. The RGIII guy is a media creation who does some good things and some questionable things. I personally believe that, on multiple planes, attacking (implicitly or otherwise) a former coach, in public, is not a smart thing to do...especially if the resume of one has a check in the block for the one thing that certifies he knows how to do the one thing that matters above all others in this profession....and the other doesn't. so, sure, Dan Marino is an authoritative source for football. winning SBs? nope. coulda, woulda, shoulda and a thousand other excuses don't change the facts. he didn't do it.

there shouldn't be any smack, IMO, from the folks who haven't won it directed at the people who have won it. aside from shere personal dignity...I happen to view that as a sign of respect.

anywho...we can differ on this.
 
Here's where I always land. In a relationship (and I don't care if it's a friendship, a marriage, or a work relationship) there are always two contributors whether the relationship is wonderful, poisonous, or somewhere in between. I don't know who was driving the dysfunction between Griffin and the Shanahans and I don't care. But I am highly confident that there is blame enough to go around. The important thing now is to let it go and move forward and that's what I hope we see this season.

look..I respectfully avoided probing the problems in transtive logic in one post.

you're introducing an entirely dfferent theme here: that Shanahan is a "dick." I have made my belief system quite clear: respect is due for the accomplishment. that's a criterion completely independent of someone's personal attributes, their agendas, and a million other qualifiers. in my book...until RGIII wins a SB...he should avoid attacking folks who have. yopu feel differnelty cuz you don't like Shanahan. that's fine. we have different approaches.

That was "introduced" when he was fired in Denver and last season.

I do respect those who accomplished it. Elway, Davis, Sharpe, Smith...those guys definitely get my respect.
 
Let's all play nice. There's no reason we can't discuss this and all have different opinions. None of us knows what really went down behind the scenes - so to an extent we're just throwing opinions out there. And that's fine, but let's keep it friendly.
 
Very happy to hear that Chris Thompson is standing out so far. That guy has to have some good juju coming his way.
 
Mike turned out to be as adverstised when he came here. All the talk out of Denver was that what finally did him in there was his need to be in control of everything. Pretty clear in hindsight now.

DC was a different animal from Denver--here, his willingness/ability to assume the role of The Man, thus keeping the activist owner at bay, was a welcome thing to most of us.

We'll likely never know the real reasons his relationship with Robert deteriorated to the extend it did, what role Kyle might have had in that dynamic, or even if the occasional whispers we hear that Robert was maybe more Dan's pick than Mike's played into it. Doesn't really matter at this point. Robert's here, and hopefully is talented enough to BE here, and be The Man ON the field, for years to come.

Bottom line, it doesn't really bother me that much in the big picture, but I'll definitely be ok with it when Robert stops talking about Mike, directly or indirectly, once and for all. I suspect that will finally stop once the games begin, and the great media animal moves on to breaking down every throw, run, hiccup and burp the man makes.

I have mixed feelings seeing Clark in the 21....but only because it makes me miss the real 21.

Its nice to see his spirit still alive on the field though.
 
Me too. I've never had a problem with honoring a fallen comrade. Just makes me wish he was still lighting up fools. Cam Chancellor and all them other Seattle boys would be taking lessons.
