The Name Change

Perhaps I misunderstand what the NCAI is all about. Didn't see Halbritter listed 'officially' on the NCAI exec committee and didn't realize that he was a mouthpiece for the organization.

Executive Committee | NCAI

Just figured that the opportunity to represent the Skins in a positive light amongst the group that advocates the change might help.

The link you gave was to a Halbritter ran event. Hence my response. It was on his "change the mascot" page.

Ah ha, I first noticed 'what are you proud to be' while perusing the NCAI home page, it's very predominant, didn't see any Halbritter references.

I followed the 'click here to participate in this photo project' link and went on from there to see what it took to sign up.
Following the trail takes you into the change the mascot.org

Geeze..

Man Gruden definitely can play the "Us Against the World" cliche IMHO. I mean between all this crap and the whole capgate shenanigans it's just there for the taking. No matter what happens I think the team needs to use this opportunity to come together hard.

Also, is it wrong if I wanna tell my uncle who's passing around the name change petition on FB to shut his whore mouth? Yes, I choose team over distant family....don't judge me.

Don't judge him, brother. Educate him.

We have ourselves some links in this thread you could show him to help adjust his perspective to a different light...no matter what his mouth does in it's spare time.

Wish I could help him out guys but it's a lost cause. He's one of those "L" words, and I don't mean a lesbian. Extremely hardheaded as well.

it seems that the PC Brigade have managed to perssuademost of the media thatour usage of the word REDSKIN is very hurtful and racist. But are media over there not yet tainted with the PC disease?

I am asking because over in the UK that former bastion of fairness the BBC is well against us, and whilst BSKYB (Murdochs satalite platform are noticibly staying well out of the debate) it is almost impossible to get an impartial view on this subject.

Vested interest perhaps but I'll take pretty much anything positive.

(Be aware that the WashTimes site has active videos that suddenly get loud when you roll over them.)

RICHMOND, Va. — Three Virginia state lawmakers are forming a “Redskins Pride Caucus” to defend the Washington, D.C.-based football team that’s come under pressure to change its name.

you're falling for the bait my man! why discuss all the other screw-ups over the last several years when we can argue over a team name?!!!

Check out the rest of what this guy has to say.
Think it burrows down to the gut of what makes many of us so ticked-off.

The audacity of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in canceling the trademark of the Washington Redskins is frightening. When the government is in charge of deciding what is offensive and what is not, and has the power to punish the “offenders,” we move further away from a free society and closer to a tyrannical nanny state.........

In today’s politically correct society, we are in danger of extinguishing interpersonal communications altogether for fear of offending someone. All of this would be comically absurd if it were not so tragic and such an immense departure from the vision of a free and prosperous society that was envisioned by our Founders.

Rather than concentrating on unanimity of thought and speech, we must concentrate on extracting the meaning of verbal communications. Examining every word or phrase for possible offense is beyond stupid. More importantly, it is divisive and destructive. We must outright reject those who try to manipulate emotions for their own political advantage. The Founders of our nation were very concerned about what would happen if the populace became uninformed and refused to think for themselves. They feared the day when Americans could be easily led and manipulated, which would lead to a drastic alteration of our nation.

Along the same line of the previously posted Stephen Fry comment on "being offended" I was introduced today by this one

"So you want to live in a democracy, but you never want to feel offended? Your an Idiot"

Steve Hughes

the Padres and Saints will be next as soon as atheists realize they can push that agenda.

Its a slippery slope and one that will just continue to get bigger and bigger.

Native American group planning $9 billion lawsuit against the Indians - CBSSports.com

We did try to warn fans of other teams that our fight was in fact a fight we all should be fighting.

as I said to my friend, If they force us to change our name are their enough zeros in the world for the size of the law suit to follow.

$9 Billion for their mascot is just the start.

This is where I see all of this going. Once a team changes their name/mascot, the lawsuit will be next. If the team has changed it and admitted it's offensive, then what is their defense against a lawsuit claiming people were hurt and offended? That's the game being played.
