DRAFT DAY (3)

Was just thinking that. We'll find out real soon if they really have secretly been genuises in that back room all this time ...

Not knowing anything about college players, this pick doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

Yup.

Who knows... maybe he finds a way to start the last 10 games and be an impact player?

That's what we need. Maybe these guys know what they're doing... we started out the off season being critical and by the end wound up pleasantly surprised I think most would say...

all they need now is a secondary! the only pick up there has been a nickel-back

All I've got is...

What do you know Al? This kid could be a hidden gem. Just relax guys. You all are all about the new unbridled regime - how about giving them the benefit of the doubt until there's evidence they made a mistake?

I wish we'd taken Bitonio, but I'm reserving judgement until we see what he can do. There are some pretty great things being said about this guy to just discount him and ridicule the pick.

boone...I'm with ya.

but we all know the pick was a disappointment when run against all the options we discussed.

we get a 3rd rnd compensatory pick if Rak leaves w/o a trade?

What did college offensive linemen ever do to piss off this organization?

Hate the pick from the standpoint of need, but can say I can live with it somewhat from the standpoint of attitude, work ethic, leadership qualities.

There is always room for more of that on any team.

Trent Murphy Draft Profile ? NFL.com

Projected rounds 2-3.

CBSsports: Murphy compares to Jared Allen.

Get the hose, put the fire out. sheesh

From that article:

Led the nation in sacks in '13 when he started all 14 games at OLB and registered 62-23.5-15 with six pass breakups, an interception return for a touchdown, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick. Also was used with his hand in the dirt in nickel. Team captain.

Mayock compared Murphy to Vrabel, which is promising. Funny that El and I were just having this debate, but I figured they'd take one a little later. Very disappointed that the pick wasn't an OT. Sigh.

Even worse seeing Joel Bitonio go at 35 to the broncos. He's gonna be a good one I believe.

Moses still on the board?

Again, I just don't see Murphy as being the BPA at #47 OR being a guy we needed to have on the team for 2014 as an immediate need either.

If Orakpo leaves in FA in 2015 we could draft a guy NEXT year or sign another FA to replace #98.

Right now, there are positions on this team where we don't have quality starters or quality developmental players and they continue to go on wanting because we are manic about shoring up areas of strength.

I liked Kouandijo but given the questions about his knees and our need for additional picks in a deep draft, I understand the trade down. Even so, it's hard to avoid feeling like always a bridesmaid, never a bride at RT. :-/

soooo....we get Moses in the third plus a an extra body. any guesses on position?

My guess is we could have drafted Moses at #47 and still gotten Murphy in Round 3.

Jared Allen? The problem with that comparison is Allen is a career 4-3 DE and Murphy is being drafted to play OLB in a 3-4

So, different situation, different player.

It would have been more of a 'feel good' comment if the comparison had been to a young DeMarcus Ware :D

The school of thought these days seems to be that corners are dispensible, that outside of a handful of guys, there are no shutdown corners anymore. You win by getting pressure on the QB. At least that's what everybody tells me.

We just got better in the pass rushing department, and in the leadership department. Our D was DREADFUL last year. Dreadful isn't even strong enough for what it was. This pick will help us get after the QB, and allow Haz to scheme creatively. It gives him another piece to stress out O Coordinators. That's not a bad thing.

Moses is still on the board, as are some other OLinemen. Deep breaths folks.

History tells me one of two things happen next.

A. Moses goes off board shortly before our next pick.

B. the more likely scenario. He'll be there for the taking only to be passed up for another linebacker or fullback.

in nickle 70% of the time last year, can use 3 OLB's in that package.

need pass rush. its our #1 concern.

In Allen I trust
