To be honest, I don't have as much of an issue if we can sign Orakpo to a multi-year deal to lower the 2014 hit and then perhaps do the same with an extension for Trent Williams.

The sad thing is that he's not even the best pass rushing OLB on the team. I hope to GOD that we dont break the bank down the road because it would mean we'd have to basically match that deal for Kerrigan next year. He's a FA in '15 (unless my search was incorrect) and at this point, it appears he deserves every penny that Orakpo gets. Kerrigan has 25 sack in 3 years, 10 ( YES 10) forced fumbles, 2 ints for 2 Def TD. If we over pay for Orakpo, it's going to bite us later.. HARD.

The view around the rest of the league is that he's an elite caliber player. Numerous 'outsiders' that represent other teams, whether it be within that organization or for a media outlet, have Orakpo as the best FA at his position by far, and apparently he's a highly sought after guy.

Yup. Perception outside the beltway is different than inside. He's at the top of all the FA ranking charts on almost all the sites.

Which is why quite a few of us have pegged the cost at 11, 12, or ever 13 mil/year. If he's allowed to test the market we'll be competing with top dollar.

I think I'd be alright going up to $13M per. Any higher than that, and I'd have reservations. Of course, with cap magic, that number is sort of arbitrary.

Rak doesn't have the impact on games those others do, and Robert isn't an "elite" QB.... yet. Fact is, we have most of our "core" Redskiins coming up for new contracts within the next 3 years, and all deserve to paid well. Overpaying for Rak could effect the resigning of others. If ya had to loose one player because of a megga contract for another, who would you choose out of Rak and Trent Williams ? Both "core" Redskins in the eyes of many. Just because we'll have the full cap to work with, we're still somewhat fragile financially. We have a bucket load of players to sign this season, and Rak's contract is going to effect every other signing, be it Fa's or draft picks not just this season, but into future seasons.

To get two firsts, we have to franchise him. If he leaves on his own without a tag, we may get a compensatory pick, but I'm not sure how that formula works.

people say that but the stats don't go along. over a 3 year career he's kept roughly the same numbers. which includes last year with jackson in the lineup.

Though maybe it's just nonsense, hard to tell with beat reporters.

I don't understand what all of the confusion is though.

Us: "Rak, we'll offer you $8-9 million with incentives or back-end loaded that you'll never see, or we'll tag you for $11.45 for one year, and we'll see if you stay healthy. Your choice."
