Random Commanders Thoughts

Minny's backup QB played in four games, many more than Cousins did.

Arizona's backup DE played in seven.

Now imagine trying to know that on live tv.

They also know what they're going to talk about ahead off time and prepare stats and such for the show. Its not off the cuff...

It starts prepared, but like with any conversation, it can go in different directions. Imagine when that happens, and they put the camera right on you to ask your opinion.

Public speaking in front of 50 people freaks most people out. Imagine the nerves a few million people might cause.

They are morons, but there are just too many teams to know everything about.

Imagine yourself on live tv. The cameras and lights are on......you're live this second:

Name Minnesota's backup QB.

Where did he go to college?

Now name Arizona's backup defensive end.

How many games did he play in last year, and how many sacks did he have?

Who is Cincy's backup QB?

Is this his second, third or fourth year in the league?

There is no way they can be expected to know everything about every team. It's even more difficult when the cameras are on.

We all make mistakes, people. And Fear, I'm guessing they don't always correct each other because they know they may make a mistake the next day. Or it may be because they are focusing on their own sixty second report coming right after the commercial break.

That might be valid....

If being a talking head on a sports station werent their sole job. An ounce of prep = a pound of accuaracy

Totally disagree.
For one thing, take into consideration the context of the subject that I mentioned that they were talking about, and you'll see how hypocritical and contradictory their mistake is : They were talking about the importance of having a quality backup QB in the NFL.......soooooo, if it's so important for every NFL team to have a quality backup QB, as he was saying - AND you just gave an example of a quality backup in the league - don't you think it would be equally important for an "analyst" to be familiar with such 2nd string QB's - especially the "perfect example" that he brought up ??
It is similar to claiming, insisting, and clamoring that a particular guy is one of the best punt returners in the league, yet you can't figure out what his name is. We're not talking about insignificant or "trivial" type of information here.
And considering there are only 32 2nd string QB's in the league, don't you think for what they're getting paid at their jobs, that it isn't too much to ask, to know such a crucial position's player names (in their own words) like the back of their hand.
The network is also at fault. Consider the HUUUGE competition for jobs like those. How hard should it be to find a candidate who knows just 32 backup QB's names, in addition to the other qualifications for that job. I guarantee you could find an over-abundance of such qualified individuals.
So, I think you're making it sound more difficult than it really is, to know such information, and overly discounting their short-comings.

Not to change the subject........ok, to TOTALLY change the subject: After checking out RG3's tweets about the Lady Bears losing to Louisville, only one thing comes to mind. The guy has passion like a Redskins fan!

If Ryan Mallett is worth a second and a fourth, Cousins is worth a franchise pick in the top 10.

Lombardi is the new GM of Cleveland, and graded Mallet out VERY highly before that draft. He may be right, of course, but he also may be wrong. Regardless, if a deal gets made, it is because Mallet was worth that much to Lombardi, not the rest of the league. I like Lombardi, but he was sitting on the sidelines and was available for a while before Cleveland came knocking.

Feeling really blah about resigning Deangelo Hall. I know cheaper deal, short term and forced into it....but it prolly meant Winfield couldnt be signed I guess. Not happy about this but we're really in no situation to rant and rave about it either. :( #boobooface

Winfield is still available. Wonder if he's shopping himself for too much... ?

I'm pretty much here, but I gotta think that D-Hall is a better option (Physical ability) than Winfield.

Still, I would like to see us improve through youth, not depend on older vets. We'll see. Maybe this experience has humbled Hall...who knows?

We still have the inside track on Winfield. He is away on vacation this week (planned long ago) and he could sign by Friday. Winfield is a lot like Fletcher in that he is a hard worker and never seems to age. He rated as one of the best CBs last year.

(Strong) Rumor has it that once Winfield signs, Josh Wilson will be released. I wonder if Wilson would come back at a lower price though - just a guess on my part.

I have never been impressed with Wilson. He is small and has only average speed. His tackling ability is so-so.

Altogether not a very solid package of skills for $3.5M.

That's just dumb. Wilson's our best corner and 28. Winfield's an outstanding DB, but he's 35. At some point soon, he's going to start showing his age. And knowing our luck, it should be, ohhhh, about the time he comes here.

Also....

PAT WHITE?!

I hope he's just being considered as a placeholder on the roster until RGIII is back.

Makes sense with the O we run, plus Graziano said the Giants were about to sign him to run their scout team to get ready for RGIII type QB's. I'm for anything that could piss off Mara!

I just read the Pat White story too. It makes sense, and gives the kid a shot to showcase his talents to other teams.

White could see the Giants don't run the zone scheme with Manning and he would be wasting his time with them.

Couldn't sleep last night and ended up looking around on ES stumbling on a thread "Whatever happened too ....." Seems many of the missing are here. Just reading that one thread cured me from going over there for a few months.

Keep up the good work fellas
