WPC: Is Bradford still in play for Redskins?

Is Bradford still in play for Redskins?

Will not signing left tackle Chad Clifton derail the Washington Redskins plans to take quarterback Sam Bradford with the fourth pick on April 22?

Clifton opted to remain with Green Bay after using Washington for leverage and sweeten the Packers offer by nearly $2 million annually. It was a tough loss for the Redskins, who desperately need to replace retired Chris Samuels. Clifton wasn’t a Pro Bowler, but he was the only respectable unrestricted free agent tackle on the limited market.

So what’s Plan B?

I think the Rams are more of a road block to the plan of taking Bradford than losing out on Clifton is but that might be just me. I think unless he bombs his pro day at the end of the month, Bradford is pretty much the man at #1.

If they're BOTH still there at #4, and barring a trade down, I strongly believe the choice will be between Bradford and Okung. I would almost be shocked if we took anyone else.

I'm not sure what the Rams are thinking about Clausen, but the general word is that if Bradford is healthy and looks good during his pro day, then he'll probably be taken by the Rams.

It looks like to me that with no other LTs on the market (unless you want to do an offer sheet to Jared Gaither), the Skins must take a LT.

Right now our best LT on the roster is Stephon Heyer.
That's scary.

It's crazy how many scenarios can play out with just 3 teams picking in front of us. The Rams seem to be very interested in a QB but if you listen to the experts the top two “can't miss” players in the draft are both DTs, and it's not like the Rams have a great defense. I also don't understand why the Rams aren't showing at least some faked interest in Clausen. You think they might if for no other reason than to have a back-up plan in case the negotiations with Bradford don't go well and they want to pressure on his agent.

I see one of two scenarios playing out:

St. Louis: Bradford - QB
Detroit: Suh - DT
Tampa Bay: McCoy - DT
Washington: Clausen – QB or Okung - OT

or

St. Louis: Suh - DT
Detroit: McCoy - DT
Tampa Bay: Berry - S
Washington: Bradford – QB or Okung - OT

I don't see any reasonable scenario where one of the big DTs fall to us. If one does we are in a perfect position to trade down and really get some things done. Still a lot of time till the draft though.

It could be the Rams are planning to go defense, but want to entice a team (us?) to move up to #1 in order to get Bradford, thus giving the Rams more picks. This time of year, with all the gamesmanship, who knows?

To me this would be the worst case scenario:

1. Rams- Bradford
2. Lions-Okung
3. TB- one of the DTs

That would leave the Skins in a weird spot at #4. Maybe they take Davis, maybe they take the elite DT. I hope that we don't take Clausen (have I mentioned, I'm not a fan?). In this situation, you hope that Denver or Seattle would make a move and give us some picks to move down.

But if they don't, I wouldn't like the pick at #4 as much although Davis looks like a good prospect and one of the elite DTs wouldn't be a bad pick up.

I can see the Skins waiting for the phone to ring with someone wanting to move up to get the other DT that Tampa does not draft.

or....

They go BPA and pick up that DT and go full swing with the 3-4

I would love it if one of the dt is at 4. Either a great trade or maybe we rethink D. A DL of Carter, Haynesworth, Suh and (Jarmon, Daniels, ) seems great to me with a certain lb being great as a rusher on 2nd and long or 3rd and long.

I still think that it is at least a possibility that we trade up to #1 and take Bradford. I expect that to be considered after Bradford's pro day. If he is a 100% then I think we will go for him.

I think we have too many holes to trade up. What would we give up? We do not have a 3rd.

I really hope we are able to trade down and take some lineman. Hopefully we can grab Tebow later. I have not been a Tebow fan, but I am turning.
