A few of us were trying to recall a Redskins' team that had more limited performers at the qb, rb and wr positions at the same time, going back to the 1970's.

We couldn't. Even the early Norv teams that finished way below .500 had a qb in Friesz that threw for 3,000 plus yards and a receiver with 1,200 yards like Henry Ellard and a back in Terry Allen that was a consistent 1,000 yard producer.

Perhaps the Richie team in 1993 that ended up with Rich Gannon at quarterback that lost 3-0 to the Jets? :)

In any case, the thread on the signing of Tashard Choice and the comments from Mike about Choice being a player that could help us, had me thinking about how lacking in talent the club really is on that side of the ball.

Ramsey/Canidate/Coles was pretty terrible, as was Banks/Davis/Gardner. Frerotte/Allen/Shepherd was a nightmare. Shuler/Ervins/Ellard?

Ugh...this thread is depressing. LOL.

Whoa, guys !!!

Are you forgetting the great Danny Wuerffel, with all those reject Florida receivers like Reidel Anthony and Jacquez Green ?

You must have purposely forgotten it, or had it erased from your memory through hypnosis or psychotherapy to remove the trauma. Because Steve Spurrier was BY FAR the WORST judge of NFL talent EVER

This group of offensively challenged players was the first that came to mind when initially starting to read this thread as well. If memory serves me correct, Shane Matthews started opening week in Spurrier's debute vs. the Cards - unbelievable.

The funny thing about all this is that the franchise many times throughout the years had the fanbase convinced that they would somehow succeed with the group they assembled on the offensive side of the ball. The problem is, once the rest of the league got the book on the Redskins after the first few weeks of September, their offense was toast. It's a shame, because I think that behind closed doors, the rest of the league was laughing at the comedy act in D.C.

All of this points to one thing (especially considering the struggles we currently have had on offense under Shanahan for two years) - there needs to be a concerted effort to correctly identify the quarterback of the future in April's draft, put him in place, and build the offense around him. Missing on a quarterback like we did in the cases of Shuler, Ramsey, and Campbell cannot be afforded.

Who is this Danny Wuerffel you speak of? Ray...Rooster...Reidel...Anthony? Jacquez....Green? I have a vague memory of a Steve Spurrier - something about a chuck n' duck offense...

This how bad it has gotten for the Redskins a Super Bowl runner up QB got benched for a QB who has never won a game in the NFL.....
