I said drafting a franchise qb without having a competent oline in place was a huge mistake and I was right. I said that the defence changing to a 3-4 was going to be one of the worst mistakes of all time and I was right. I said that forcing fat al to play nose was stupid and lo and behold, I was right again. I said hiring gruden was a mistake, that his keeping haslett was a sign that the guy was friggin clueless, and guess what? I was right again. I said that drafting cousins in the second round was retarded when we had such a need on oline, and I was right yet again, do you see a pattern here?

Its actually tiresome being right all the time, even more so when I really wished I was wrong a couple times. its pissing me off because I dont know how some guy in northern alberta consistently knows more than people who get paid big money to make these decsions, and whats more im not the only one who saw these things, some of you guys agreed with me, (some of you didnt, but im pretty sure you know better now lol)

There is a lot of fault to go around with the entire Rg3 debacle, shamahan mostly for being an abject dickhole and leaving Rg3 in when he clearly shouldnt have gets the lions share but we hired Gruden specifically because he is supposed to be a qb guru, and what exactly did he accomplish besides nothing? I would take a 4 win season if I saw real progress from our O, and if Rg3 started showing some improvement with better protection, but I wont take 7 wins with cousins because the truth is that cousins is junk and a waste of our time to start him, he has no chance at being our qb. and heres the thing, I dont want us drafting a qb next year, frankly I want one more year of improving our oline before we even think about drafting another qb. I want to see some true talent drafted on the defence not mid rounders.

drafting rg3 set us back, but it didnt have to, hell if gruden was a half decent coach he would have made it work somehow. so basically what I want to see next year is a new coach, one who fits with callahan as the Oline coach, one who will put all the pieces in place AND THEN draft a qb. I will take losing if I see a plan, we havent had that, we have had suck and suck with aging or midlevel players, screw that I want to see youth and I want to see upside and improvement, and I dont believe Gruden will give us that, Gruden has been a huge mistake.

Gruden is a 2nd year coach. We barely know him yet. As I've said repeatedly (and I'm right - that seems important to mention :)), one of the biggest contributors to 20 years of mostly failure has been having cycled through more head coaches than any other team in the NFL. So forgive me if I'm a little bit skeptical that jettisoning Gruden after just a year to prove he can do the job makes a whole lot of sense. A lot of folks talk about culture, culture, culture - well, you can't build a culture if you keep removing the leadership. What we need to have as fans and an organization is some patience with the latest front office. It's not their fault that we've sucked for 20 years. They need time to figure it out. The only issue I have with your post is that you ignore the improvements that have taken place. I'm not talking about wins obviously, but I'm talking about organizational philosophy related to how we use free agency, keeping and wisely using our draft picks (including to rebuild the line, something that has begun, but which you fail to mention). Yeah - I know - all of these improvements have been forced upon a kicking and screaming Jay Gruden (that's sarcasm btw), but there are obvious, visible improvements in place and I am confident that we'll continue to see this roster get stronger and stronger. And btw - I don't think you were right even in the instances you loudly proclaim you were. Cousins was a great pickup, not only because of the value, but because since we all know drafting a franchise QB is a near total crapshoot no matter who is doing so, we actually have some promise at that position even though our presumed starter has turned about to be somewhat of a disaster. Cousins experienced some painful growth opportunities last season. But lets not pretend he can't play - because he absolutely can. And like Gruden, he's extremely inexperienced so let's not assume we know the end of the novel after the first chapter.

I'm losing hope because its gone from football to soap opera most days now. I don't have the fortitude to deal with that nonsense

Winning is the best deodorant. Until that happens, we're low-hanging fruit for today's ravenous media culture.

Don't we already have 33848484 doom and gloom threads? ;-)

The easiest solution is to stop watching/listening/reading about it.

Limit yourself to watching the games, and selective reading, to here. Even this can be difficult. But if it's the only place you are showered with the negativity, then it won't be so bad. We all have the ability to control our own minds, and thoughts.

No sports talk radio.
No BSPN.
No NFL Network.

BGO only. In selective doses. ;)

The ignore function is only about 20% effective. Quote them and you see it, and they can still quote you without you seeing it.

Cousin Kirk was taken in the 4th round, not the 2nd. Feel better now? :)

I've been a fan of this team for over 45 years. I've seen some lean times before. The biggest difference is in today's world we have instant news, social media, and internet feeding us things. Some may be fact or fiction.

For me it is an easy choice. As a lifelong fan I will support and love my team regardless. I may grumble about them privately or with other Skins fans. But, I will stand behind them and defend the coaches and players will all my heart and soul. This is was a real Redskins fan does.

The most interesting thing about all this is the obvious question ... what if any impact of this latest off-field stupidity, in this case from the GM's wife and the hapless PR guy, have on the team when they tee it up against Miami on opening day?

It's about something Gibbs used to lament on and on about: Distractions.
You mean Gibbs who coached Riggins who liked to get drunk at social dinners, call out "Sandy baby", and then fall over?

Or coach Gibbs with the cokehead defensive lineman who couldn't stay sober?

Or the constant quarterback issue we had?

Coach Gibbs was amazing...but he didn't walk on water nor should he be treated like a perfect savior just to try and disparage the current team

Ah, of course. Distractions. How many points per game in one of those?

Hey, I'd rather the team have zero "distractions." If for no other reason than you'd quiet the incessant fan/media noise. I've just never bought in to the notion that what non-participants on the outside are buzzing about--particularly in an instance like this that doesn't even involve coaches or players--has any measurable impact on the field.

I think the opposite effect could occur - players circling the wagons and having an 'us against the world' mentality. Personally, I think this goes away quickly and has zero impact on players.

I'm doing that now. Let's hitch em together and **** the world!

Yeah, I guess Gruden can just ignore the questions at the next media event.

At least he won't be fielding questions about RG3 this next session.

Just another distraction the staff will have to hold meetings about in order to have a pat answer.

Don't you think Gruden woke up this morning and said, "WTF now!"

Yeah, no impact.
Gruden's going to spend X number of minutes at the next press conference, no matter what. If the press chooses to focus on this, as I'm sure they will, that's their problem, not Gruden's. Head Coaches have to stand at a podium and answer stupid questions every day--it's in the job description.

And no, I don't think he and his staff will waste even one minute in spin-control meetings that they'd otherwise be spending plotting to kick Miami's ass. Do you? Really?
