Why Haslett has to go

Nope. The Bengals D from this season that has given up 38 fewer yards and 1 more point than our own D.

Yes, and that while MISSING two starters until this last week (not to mention their first round CB Kirkpatrick).

Wow, went completely over his head lol.

What went right over my head, out of curiosity? I was making a point. Apparently it went right over YOUR head.

Also, do you really think this type of post is beneficial to anything or anyone?

I'll leave the topic at just explaining what I was trying to say:
He purposefully indicated that the begals defense of the first two weeks of the 2012 season was missing some key players, and that the defense was pretty good the year before and those key players were back for the week 3 game against us.

Your response was to talk about the begals in weeks 1 and 2 of this season.

Was it beneficial? No, it wasn't intended to be beneficial.

Well then, thanks for your contribution to the thread! I hope to see many more of your helpful insights along the way here at BGO.

I understood what he was saying, he came out and said it. I'm not sure what you think could have went over my head, unless you just think I'm stupid and didn't want to say that.

The Bengals D has been bad this year. Really bad. Were they top 10 last year? Sure. But their drop off has been astronomical. And before the Redskins (who they still allowed 24 points to), they played Baltimore and Cleveland - not exactly known for being powerhouse offenses.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total

Baltimore has 4th ranked yards/game
Clevelend has the 24th

Baltimore has 3rd ranked passing yards/game
Cleveland has the 18th

Baltimore has 11th ranked rushing yards/game
Cleveland has the 29th

Baltimore has 4th ranked points/game
Cleveland has the 28th.

I used averages because these two teams have played 1 game more than the rest of the league.

Baltimore has a pretty good offense (so far). I included Cleveland as well, they'er clearly not a powerhouse.

So why don't we have those tackles?

Perhaps we drafted a guy in Trent Williams that is talented but unmotivated to become one of the best?

Perhaps we traded a high draft choice for a guy in Jammal Brown that couldn't walk without a limp WHEN the trade was made?

Perhaps we could have taken a better prospect this year in Round 3 who wouldn't be buried so far down the depth chart at OG and as a backup center to an average starter? Were there any tackle prospects out there?

Not doubting you, BT, but where did you see this? The only time I've ever read that Jammal Brown couldn't walk without a limp at the time of the trade is in your posts. Do you have a link for this?

Too long ago. I remember an interview with Shanahan where he indicated Jammal was not all the way back from his rehab and would begin running and doing drills by camp.

So I did take some poeric license in indicated he couldn't walk, but I do recall clear as day that he couldn't run or do football practice exercises.

And my first thought was the Redskins doctor must know something the Saints staff missed.

You don't often see a 28 year old former pro bowler that was a #1 pick of a team get dealt if the felt he was going to be 100 percent.

They replaced him with Bushrod who is an average tackle.

Lanky, when we made the trade I posted that it was a massive gamble to trade for a guy who couldnt walk without a limp but that if his hip surgery was succsessful it could end up being a steal because pre injury Brown was a stellar athlete who was developing into a very good LT, I also said that I didnt think he was going to be good to go for at least a year and I thought the saints were going with a clearly inferior player in Bushrod because of that.

in regards to coverages, haslett likes to try to disguise coverages a lot but often we end up putting our secondary in bad angles and positions and we blow a lot of coverages, he also has a habit of blitzing at odd times and form unsound formations. this works well against an unprepared team but not agsinst god teams.

to me the biggest indictment against Haslett is that he is a puppet, in year one we ran a lot of 40 fronts in a couple games, but immediately afterwards we ran 30 fronts even though they were obviously not working, NO Dc will go away from what works unless forced to, so I believe Shannahan ordered him t run 3-4 no matter what. No DC will be effective if he cant tailor his scheme to the players he has available, and adjust and tweak and Haslett just seems incapable of that.

when you have a backfield that has coverage issues you really can't afford to run a Cover 0 on second and 20 and leave the CBs to trail receivers by 4 or 5 yards.

That's how we lost BOTH games to the Cowboys last year, taking the ultimate risk/reward in situations where Dallas was able to get the ball out.

I hate to say it but the bend but don't break Cover 2 that Blache was running here in 2008 and 2009 might be more appropriate until we have corners we can trust.

BT- exactly, you run the best scheme that fits your talent until you have the guys in place to run what you want to run. another good way to cover poor dbs, is to blitz from several spots while playing tight zone or man, but that requires coaching and discipline.

what pisses me off the most are we get flashes that Haslett gets it, like against the bears his first year, or against the saints, when we ramped up the pressure until the 4th q but then he goes back to wanting to be sneaky with coverages and we get away from pressure. PRESSURE is the key to any 3-4 defence, having the extra speed on the field is useless if you are keeping it in cverage and not attacking.
