Which is safer ?

1) Walk around with no cash, and only use credit cards, which puts you at risk of skimmers, scanners, scammers, hackers, and other fraud ?

2) Or just walk around with cash, and risk getting mugged ?

Which is more likely to happen ?

Might also depend on where you live. I think the risk of someone capturing my credit card info is extremely low given the rural area I live in. Then again, the risk of someone robbing me is equally low.

If I lived in a major metropolitan area, I'd probably just take some simple precautions with my credit cards (there are anti-theft tools out there), but I certainly don't think carrying a lot of cash is a smart move no matter where you live.

There are protections against credit card theft. You can usually dispute charges and get your money back, and it's much easier to trace card use back to someone. Some asshole steals your cash and you are SOL.

Of course you should have included the third and best option - traveler's checks! ;)

That was my bad. I posted contradictory questions between the title and the post, which would have yielded contradictory answers : "Which is safer", and then "Which is more likely to happen" is probably what mis-lead you.
No, I'm dumb as a brick sometimes. :betterwink:

The safest approach is to not say what you do in a popular internet forum.
