What if the Commanders are committed to selecting the best defensive edge rusher on their draft board?

When the team at No. 29 is on the clock, who might be the highest-rated edge rusher on Washington's board? John Keim spoke with ESPN Draft analyst Matt Miller regarding the highest-ranked edge rushers who might be available at No. 29. Here are some selected quotes from Miller during his conversation with Keim.

Here's what Miller said about some of these specific edge rushers:

  • Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M): "Though he tested as one of the best defensive end prospects ever, he only had 4.5 sacks in three years of college."
  • Mykel Williams (Georgia): "You watch him in his two games against Texas, and you would think he was going to be a top five pick in the draft. But the rest of the time he was kind of quiet."
  • Donovan Ezeiruaku (Boston College): "He's undersized, has long arms, but my goodness he has some power to his game..."
  • Mike Green (Marshall): "Mike Green as a player should be a top 15 pick. The best pass rusher outside Abdul Carter in the draft."
  • James Pearce Jr (Tennessee): "I think for Pearce, he is going to have to add lower body strength. The range on him is all over the place. If you're comfortable with his character, he could go top 20; if you're not, he could go late second round."
  • Landon Jackson (Arkansas): "I've seen Landon Jackson play in person four times and he is always the best player on the field...I wish he had been more productive with the tools he has. That's probably my largest complaint."
  • Oluwafemi Oladejo (UCLA): "He has had such a meteoric rise in the past four months. At the Senior Bowl in Mobile, I was incredibly impressed with him as a person, the way he thinks about the game, how dialed in he is...I wouldn't be surprised if he is a Top 50 pick."
