Yeah, it's easy to say 'look at the record' :)

But a few of us were trying to figure out the 'pre' signs of a Washington team that is improving and set to trendline up as say the Falcons have done the past 18 months, moving from merely hopeful to a confident team that is readying to contend for a block of seasons.

I am going to include the subtle signs and not merely the 'acquire Peyton Manning' type of obvious ad-hominems.

My list (obviously I am including 2011 and perhaps beyond):

1. When team speed is upgraded on both sides of the ball.

2. When Stephon Heyer is no longer the top reserve on the OL.

3. When the developmental quarterback (John Beck) is not 29 years old.

4. When the #3 corner is a legit candidate to take over a starting job down the road.

5. When another wider receiver is within 5-10 catches of Santana Moss for the team lead in receptions.

6. When the discussion about the starting quarterback is about how good he will be rather than how good he used to be.

7. When guys like Phillip Daniels (37) and Vonnie Holliday (34) are no longer capable of making the roster because the DL talent is just that good.

8. When Kareem Moore is not the only true free safety on the team.

9. When 3rd and 2 yards becomes a rushing down again.

10. When scoring 20-25 points in a game is a more than monthly occurrence.

Hmmm...a little broad, don't you think?

3. When the developmental quarterback (John Beck) is not 29 years old.

Keep in mind that Beck is from BYU, and they get a later start on college football than most guys, because of their "missions." So yeah they're older, but they don't have the wear & tear that a normal 29 year-old has either. QBs (if protected) can play well into their 30s, so this is not a big deal IMO. This is all assuming of course that Beck will amount to anything, which is a HUGE if.

8. When Kareem Moore is not the only true free safety on the team.

I'm not ready to give up on Kareem just yet...he's only had 2 and a half seasons, and shown (IMO) improvement every year. Maybe you mean that you want more depth at the position? In which case I agree.

I pretty much agree with everything else.

I think the one point you made that is huge in my book is 3rd and 2 a run down again. When we can start running the ball successfully again is when we will turn things around like the Falcons or even the Bucs or Chiefs who seem to be teams on the rise.

The one thing that will drive me crazy is if by the end of next year Dallas looks more like a team on the rise than we are.

11. when we have a starting center who isn't blown away like the center pin at the local alley in pass protection.

12. when, if playing the 3-4, any LB (not just O-PO) is a blitz threat.

13. when we have a big, physical, athletic wideout who can dominate in the red zone and block for the running game... :) ..... had to work that one in!

14. when we get the general feeling on any given play that the Skins are going to prevail most times rather than give it away!

You know what's sad, FS? I actually had 14 a couple of times this season. I felt good against the Colts late and against the Lions, until i saw Rex warming up. Then I vomited. Not sure I will have that the rest of the way.

I'll know it when I see it.

I haven't seen it this year.

conditioning Goaldie......I've basically been in that mindset since 1992. it'll change.......starting in the middle of next season. book it.

16) When I quit praying that any starter doesn't get hurt and has to be replaced by one of our reserves

17) when the running game becomes consistent and reliable...to the point that at the end of games the Redskins can gain first downs and run out the clock to put an opponent away without all the end of game drama.

that's a good one! wouldn't that be nice...oh I don't know...in games when you are up by 5 pts going down the stretch?!!!!!

Hell, I'd love to see that when we're up by 10 or 15. Putting teams away is something we haven't done in quite a while.

When we win the games we are supposed to win.
