What's a food you just cannot do?

Some of us are pickier than others when it comes to our food tastes. I grew up in a house with a father who was a very adventurous eater. He'd bring home random stuff all the time. Oysters. Pomegranate. Matzo. He'd take raw cauliflower and dip it in chili sauce. There wasn't much he, and thus his kids, wouldn't try. My mom was not particularly adventurous, but she was a country girl from Kentucky, so scrambling eggs, and brains - weren't a big deal. Fried green tomatoes, aspic, chicken livers, we were subjected to a lot of 'strange' foods based on her cultural experiences.

As a result, there is almost nothing I won't eat, or at least try. I remember my parents taking me to a Chinese restaurant when I was young and I ordered duck with chocolate sauce. It was inedible. But that's one of the extremely rare times in my life where I couldn't eat something.

What is an absolute 'no' for you when it comes to food?

See - I ****ing love liver and onions. Because = Mom. Tastes are so crazy.

My wife makes a dish (and she is no cook - sorry honey) with chicken livers, bacon, balsamic vinegar, and green olives served over rice. That shit is crack. But beef liver and onions is even better!

This is an easy one for me...

Anything Alfredo sauce is a no go, pasta in particular.

Tried liver a number of ways, and just cant do it, yet I love liverwurst. Asparagus is also a no go for me. I'll try anything at least once, and eat stuff that make others cringe like tripe.

I'm an absolute pain in the ass when it comes to food.

Liver - nope
Olives - nope
Tomatoes - I'll eat things made from tomatoes but not tomatoes themselves
Bananas - nope
Peanut butter - nope

Just based on tomatoes and olives you might be dead to me, lol…

I have met quite a few people who have an aversion to bananas (that’s what she said).

Like you , Boone, I love to try new things. When we did Route 66 a few years back, I decided to try something different every night, and also try whatever the State was famous for. Deepdish Pizza Pis in Chicago for instance.

Anyhow, a couple of years ago, we went to Florence. We ended up at this little restaurant and ordered food. My friend Karl sat across from me and ordered his usual steak. It arrived and looked amazing. These kind of thin slices, done to perfection.
I decided to go a different way. The menu had 'Wild boar ragu with a chocolate pasta' which sounded interesting enough for me to take a punt on.

Wow. That backfired badly! LOL

It arrived, and in contrast with Karl's deliciously delicate steak, my plate contained what looked like dog food. Still, though the first impression wasn't great, the proof of the ragu is in the tasting.

Which was also awful. It was chewy and salty and generally unpleasant. And the pasta was...ugh.

It was painful watching my friend tuck into his steak while I shovelled that mess into my mouth wishing I'd ordered what he had! LOL
Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If such a food exists, I haven't met it yet.
We were fortunate to have been raised as foodies, and my folks have always encouraged us to try different foods.
When I was younger, I didn't care for fennel, or licorice, but have since grown to like it.

I find it funny that for the vast majority of my life I wouldn’t ever consider eating oysters or snails. Now they are at the top of my list of things I order when dining out.

If had to pick one I would have to go with kimchee. I have eaten a lot of things that people would consider strange. The one thing I am picky about is seafood. I want to know where my seafood comes from. Guess this is because grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and have friends and family that worked on the water. This is why probably a little picky over what sushi I eat.
