USAA, Griffin - Million Fan Salute to Troops

USAA has teamed up with Robert Griffin III, among others in the NFL, to launch a campaign for fans to salute our troops and picking which team to send the salute from.

RGIII's Discipline Learned Through Military Upbringing

In just his second season in the NFL, Robert Griffin III has shown the discipline and leadership abilities of a much older man. Something that he says goes back to his upbringing in a military household. Griffin says he wasn't "cleaning the bathroom with toothbrushes or anything" in a promotional video for USAA and the NFL, but he feels that growing up a military brat with both parents serving in the U.S. Army has help him develop into who he is today. Along with a glimpse into Griffin's military family background, fans are given a nice look at several photos of the Redskins' quarterback from his childhood, and he explains the reason he chose to wear the No. 5 during his high school playing days was due to having five people in his family. Although Griffin changed his jersey to No. 10 at Baylor, which is still his current number in Washington, Griffin definitely shows that family is very important to him with the gesture he did at a young age, regardless of what his number is today. Griffin goes on to explains that he was a big fan of playing with action figures— along with a photo of him with his Power Rangers toy collection— and over time his mother and father became superheroes to him due to their sacrifice in giving him everything he need to become a success today. While this season isn't going as well as Griffin had hoped after leading the Redskins to the playoffs last year, Washington still must be impressed with how he has been able to handle the disappointment of a down year. After all, with this guy leading your team, it is only a matter of time before things get rolling once again.
