The Sky Has Fallen Thread

I know this will sound crazy - but the Daniels injury may prove to be a blessing in disguise.

First of all - it will have NO impact whatsoever on his ability to play in the future.
Secondly, I'm not sure how healthy he is to begin with and at least now he will be forced to fully rest, rehab, and recover. When he does come back (probably in 2026) he will be healthy.
Thirdly, we are not going anywhere this season. I would hate to have Daniels out there taking punishment and putting himself at risk for injuries that might impact his long-term ability (ACL, achilles, throwing arm injuries, concussions, etc..)

This season is over and it sucks. But maybe it is better that we do a full on reboot with Daniels next season vs. putting him at risk in pointless games.

Not directed towards anyone here’s thoughts, just a general view-

Trade whom for what? Some late round picks? Like that would make a difference. Any GM buzzards circling this team would find nothing of interest to even sniff at or take a closer look.

35 year old Ertz & Wagner? Deebo for a 5th/6th? Would Payne even garner a 4th? A previously broken down (now broken) and washed Lattimore? Who on the team is the secret sauce player that would make a contender salivate? Luvu? McLaurin now? Fat chance.

Peters is seriously between a rock and a hard place. The draft capital locker is filled mostly with lottery tickets and hope. The team is currently mostly dependent on players at the top of career counselor’s call lists. I’m sure glad that it’s not my responsibility to fix.

All good points.

I think they have to take the long view. That's the ONLY mistake Adam Peters may have made - in diverging from that somewhat last offseason. We are not as 'bad' as we have looked this season. Between all of the injuries to guys who can actually play, and the tough schedule, it's just been a perfect storm of bad.

The team we all want to see and root for can't be built in an offseason. We need to get as many picks as we can, draft who we can, and keep grinding away at adding talent and youth. I don't know that there is any secret formula to it.

And I don't think firing Quinn as some are already suggesting is any kind of answer either. He is, to a certain extent, as powerless as fans are to turn marginal talent into wins. We don't need additional chaos and change. Recommit to roster building and the youth movement and don't derail that because of one terrible season.

Im now starting to see that our improbable run last year was the absolute worse thing that could have happened to us.

We abandoned build through the draft And started trading away draft picks for aging vets their teams no longer saw a future with and at the same time this entire staff bought itself a ton of rope that we're all gonna hang from over the next 2 or 3 years at least.
Pretty much this. We traded away too many picks and didn’t pick any real players with what we had, except a spectacular but an injury prone QB and nothing else. So disappointed with this season

That's why it's time to tank the season (not that we even have to try at this point ) and get a top 3 pick in the draft. Then trade that pick for a hoop of later picks. It's the only way to restock the shelves.

Top 3 looks more difficult than playing good defense at this point.

We could use some late round picks. That is where a lot of teams have found starting RBs, guards, centers, TEs, DTs, LBs, Ss and CBs in recent years.

I really wish we had more this past draft class to take a DT in an insanely deep class, double dip at RB, etc

I don’t have a problem with late round picks per se. I do have a problem with them being the primary asset to build a team that is so devoid of front line talent. Peters is going to have to absolutely nail his 1st and 3rd picks in April and also nail some FA additions to turn the ship around.

I don't think they'll win another game actually. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe the Dolphins. Maybe. Some of those other teams ahead of us for the Offseason award have a chance to win a couple down the stretch

I hope you’re right but I doubt their fanbases agree. 😉

Boone I really hope you are right in that this injury won't impact him in the future. But the reality is we won't know if this will have any lasting effects until we see him play again. I hope for a full recovery both physically and mentally. We've seen folks come back after an injury that "hear footsteps" from then on. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen here.

Eventually the ghost of RG will be sent packing, but for now I can't escape the worry.

The Dolphins will annihilate us and the narrative will be that they’re fighting to save Mike McDaniel’s job and showing some life. That offense is too much for our D, their running game is good and explosive, Tua is not good but we can’t exploit his weaknesses in a meaningful way…with our further injuries, they’re going to dance on our grave

There is a whole thread on this, and some of the suggestions are legitimate and some are silly. But I think there could be some market for a day 2 pick for Payne and Mariota. And day 3 picks for Deebo, Wagner, Ertz, Von Miller, Jonathan Jones... Maybe some others. If we want to get young guys to be backups then we need a lot of day 3 picks, and they could theoretically get that.

It's the elbow of his non-throwing arm. If you have to get an injury, that's about the best place you can get it.

If this injury derails his career, I'd be shocked.

If it was his throwing arm, it's an ENTIRELY different discussion. but it's not.

I get all that and I even agree with all of it. Again just have to call Sam and Dean Winchester to kill this ghost

I think you’re being optimistic with many of the values. I want young players that can be actual or borderline starters, not backups. We have few of the former and many of the latter.

God this is so depressing. We still have 9 games to play and people are already rooting for us to tank the season, and this time we don’t even get a quarterback out of it.

I look forward to football season all year, and for what? We’ve played one good game and it’s over already.

Seems it is always like this. New owner, new GM, new coach, new QB, same sorry team as always. The only difference is a glimmer of false hope to make the collapse that much more disappointing.

I’m completely demoralized.

My thoughts too; In a strange way this season might be a good one for building in the future- A top draft choice, a ream moving up for a QB and we could have draft picked up for the next few years. I think we are ser up to get younger and better

If we have a top 5 pick, we absolutely need to spend it on a blue-chip player, like a pass rusher. We have 2 blue chippers on our team currently (JD and Tunsil).

I turned off the TV at the start of the third quarter so I missed the injury. I'm not sure if I agree that he should have been pulled. Most coaches believe in fighting 'til the end even when the game is lost. This sucks. The sky has fallen. As my dad would say, the only luck we have in 2025 is bad luck.
I almost looked up that song from Hee Haw back in the day...

"Deep dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all"
