The Rams Simply Beat Us (No blaming Morgan or the Refs)

So, I have had a few minutes to calm down and take in the loss for a moment and I will say up front, the Rams beat us. It wasn't Josh Morgan nor the referees, though both were culpable in their own rights. But the Rams simply beat us and they did so by playing the dirtiest game of football I can remember watching.

It started early in the game with a couple of simple tugs on the leg when the play was over. This simple act took Griff out of his game for a couple plays and may have been a factor in his interception. He was taken out of his game easily today. He recovered well for the most part, but we saw the rookie today. And it didn't stop there. All game long the Rams defenders were tugging at a foot, twisting a leg, hitting players...after the play was dead. I swear it happened on 75% of our offensive plays. I will go back and look through the video again once I can stomach it, but I will stick with that number for now.

London Fletcher is a pro! After getting hit late by an offensive lineman, he yelled at the ref, let him know there was a dirty play and went out and caused a fumble on the next play. Josh Morgan, did not. I am not blaming Morgan. I would have punched Courtland Finnegan straight in the mouth! I cannot control my temper like Fletcher did. But Finnegan had been doing the same thing all game long and the refs never stopped it! I understand Morgan's frustration. (The only thing I will blame Morgan for is running backwards when he caught that 3rd down pass)

So why am I not blaming the refs? I have been an official, I know how easily a game can spiral out of control if it is not officiated well. I say the Rams won that game because someone in that coaching staff has told them the refs are not as good as the regular refs and they will miss some of the little nuances that can take an opposing team out of their game. Courtland Finnegan is a prime example, even though he's been doing it for a long time. But #59 on their offensive line, Courtland Finnegan, Laurinitis...these players were consistently taking advantage of the poor officiating.

Throw in a defense that had no answer for Danny Amendola and the Rams beat us. We had a 21-6 lead on them and we blew it. The Rams aren't that good. What they did was take advantage of the situation, the played dirty enough to get us out of our game and the Josh Morgan play was the icing on the cake!

Count me as one who (in another thread a short time ago) did not reference the officiating one time. This is on the team and especially the coaching - or lack thereof. I can't argue a single point that El has made.

You made a point in the other thread BB that I was going to mention here, and Lanky was a little more eloquent...WHY DO YOU ATTEMPT A FG IN THAT SITUATION WHEN YOU TRADED SO MUCH FOR GRIFF? Give him the chance to be the hero, don't ruin your kicker mentally for the season!

Yeah...refs benefitted both sides equally, IMO. They were just a little more against us in the second half.

u guys see at halftime when it was showing like 3 facemask pulling by tha rams ...i didn't see any flags for those ! horrible just horrible ...

Well, what would you say had Davis been carted off the field after that hit?

If you train to play a game within certain parameters, and everything changes because of the ineptitude of the rule keepers, then you're playing a different game. Everything changes. It's chaos.

The penalties with threats of fines should have been paraded early on by the refs. The penalties weren't called, and the game got out of hand.

Thinking the refs had no impact on the game is a bit naive.

Come on tr1, where did I say they had no influence? I said the were not to blame. It looked like the Rams were better prepared and willing to play dirty, taking advantage of the terrible officiating. And I agree, that hit on Fred was a TERRIBLE CALL! But that was not what beat us. On the next play there was a hold that pushed us back 10 yards.

Sorry BB but I think you're being remiss in not referencing the officiating. The Skins, despite Haslett's suckage, are STILL a better team than the Rams. The game, officiated properly, would have resulted in a Redskins victory.

That said, it would have been a win I wouldn't have been totally happy with, BECAUSE of Haslett. Horrible defensive game plan and another freakin' punt block would have had me miffed no matter what. The refs just put me over the top.

The worst part isn't the loss or even what the Rams were allowed to get away with. The worst part is coming down off of last week's high and KNOWING we're going to have to depend on RG3 to stay healthy and keep us in games so we even have a "chance" to win.

Can we please retire the icing the kicker strategy? Please?

Bad calls went both ways. They took a TD from Steve Jackson.

Yeah. I really hate that ****. It's bad karma and seems to bite teams in the ass more often than not. Trust mother luck and just let them kick.

Especially when we know it only works when OUR kicker gets iced.

I would disagree that they got Griffin out of his game. The kid played better than any rookie I've seen, under similar circumstances.

I too don't blame the loss on the refs. But I watched a similar display of letting the players get out of hand in the Crow/Fecal game. These inept assholes are going to get someone hurt.

I hope Roger Goodell is happy. I'd like to see someone throw a shoulder into his lying ****ing face.

Morgan's payback cost us the game...and, the shove to his face mask wasn't called...because that chippy play wasn't reigned in all day.

The no-calls, missed calls and bad calls affected the game...and, there's no telling how it would have come out had the game been called cleanly.

Yeah, we lost. But, that wasn't an NFL game...that was chaos.

No it didn't! If you know sports, games are not won or lost on one play! How would the game had differed if Aldrick Robinson had caught that ball! Morgan would not have been in the position to have to react to getting punched in the face,. Finnegan took advantage of the refs inability to call the game and got Morgan to react.

The reality is, I think this should be investigated! It is akin to Bounty Gate if the coaches did indeed tell their players to do what they did today. I have to wonder what the Lions had to deal with last week. There is no other way they could all have been on the same page with their dirty play.

Ask Morgan if he thought it cost the Skins the game...

I think he'd agree with me.

Doesn't make it reality.

Morgan was stupid for reacting, stupid! But that single play did not determine the game! The call to attempt a FG was equally as stupid! You pay such a hefty price tag to draft your future QB, you let him try to be the hero! Don't put it in the hands of a FG kicker you've had on the team for 3 weeks. He's no David Akers!

Can we all agree that before our franchise qb gets killer, the league needs to bring back the regular guys, regardless of the cost?
Yes! I agree wholeheartedly! Players are going to continue to get hurt because of the atrocious officials!

Great, so the refs are not to blame because they called a lousy game and allowed Rams to try to cheap shot and injure our players outside the rules all game.

That's like saying the Chernobyl or Fukishima meltdowns are not responsible for causing cancer.

:bsflag:

Simultaneously, Danny Smith beng allowed to coach a special teams unit that has allowed seven blocks in a season and two games was a big reason for the loss as was a completely assinine defensive game plan.

Wait! Was it Danny Smith's fault or the refs! You can't have it both ways!

We got beat by the Rams! The refs didn't beat us!

I can absolutely have it both ways. Both were prime contributers.

A bank robber can be guilty of robbery, assault, murder, speeding, etc. You don't have to pick one offense and stop.

The Redskins lost because of multiple offenses including horrible reffing. The non call on Fletcher was inexcusable. The three step hit on RGIII is illegal. The personal foul on the defenseless receiver ought to be called esp. if they called it the other way earlier in the game.

are you saying 45 yards of field position doesn't make a difference in a three point game? And that's only three really egregious calls.

Please, just admit that we got beat and stop playing your pseudo-iuntellectual games! The Rams beat us today. They had the same poor officiating we did. The difference was they took advantage of it and we didn't!
