The Rams Simply Beat Us (No blaming Morgan or the Refs)
So, I have had a few minutes to calm down and take in the loss for a moment and I will say up front, the Rams beat us. It wasn't Josh Morgan nor the referees, though both were culpable in their own rights. But the Rams simply beat us and they did so by playing the dirtiest game of football I can remember watching.
It started early in the game with a couple of simple tugs on the leg when the play was over. This simple act took Griff out of his game for a couple plays and may have been a factor in his interception. He was taken out of his game easily today. He recovered well for the most part, but we saw the rookie today. And it didn't stop there. All game long the Rams defenders were tugging at a foot, twisting a leg, hitting players...after the play was dead. I swear it happened on 75% of our offensive plays. I will go back and look through the video again once I can stomach it, but I will stick with that number for now.
London Fletcher is a pro! After getting hit late by an offensive lineman, he yelled at the ref, let him know there was a dirty play and went out and caused a fumble on the next play. Josh Morgan, did not. I am not blaming Morgan. I would have punched Courtland Finnegan straight in the mouth! I cannot control my temper like Fletcher did. But Finnegan had been doing the same thing all game long and the refs never stopped it! I understand Morgan's frustration. (The only thing I will blame Morgan for is running backwards when he caught that 3rd down pass)
So why am I not blaming the refs? I have been an official, I know how easily a game can spiral out of control if it is not officiated well. I say the Rams won that game because someone in that coaching staff has told them the refs are not as good as the regular refs and they will miss some of the little nuances that can take an opposing team out of their game. Courtland Finnegan is a prime example, even though he's been doing it for a long time. But #59 on their offensive line, Courtland Finnegan, Laurinitis...these players were consistently taking advantage of the poor officiating.
Throw in a defense that had no answer for Danny Amendola and the Rams beat us. We had a 21-6 lead on them and we blew it. The Rams aren't that good. What they did was take advantage of the situation, the played dirty enough to get us out of our game and the Josh Morgan play was the icing on the cake!
