My first Chief started started his military career in the Army as a door gunner. He had some wild tales and it gave him a unique perspective on life. I walked into his office one day and he was chewing someone out on the phone, talking to them like they were some airman. Finally he said "That's not in the regs and and we're not doing it that way!" and BAM, hung up the phone. I said "Damn Chief, who the hell was that?" and he said "Some ****ing Col on the other side of the base". I knew my jaw was on the floor and Chief knew exactly what I was thinking. He said, "Jay, I've been shot at. You think I'm scared of what some Col can say or do to me?"

I didn't fully understand his view, until about 3 years later in Desert Storm
