I recently ran into this story and find it a very interesting mystery that I had never heard of. So all my BGO amateur sleuths, have at it! What happened?

The Dyatlov Pass Incident | Atlas Obscura

In January of 1959, 23-year-old Igor Dyatlov led a group of eight young Soviet hikers, comprising seven men and two women and mostly university students, into the Ural Mountains, attempting to reach Mt. Ortorten from the small settlement of Vizhai. It took more than three months to locate all nine of their bodies.

They were found about six miles away from their destination, in a forest almost a mile away from their campsite, without their skis, shoes, or coats in approximately -30 degrees Fahrenheit weather. Two of them had fractured skulls, two more had major chest fractures, and one hiker was missing her tongue. Soviet investigators listed the cause of death as “a compelling natural force,” and abruptly closed the case not even a month later.

Acid tests ? No, wait, our government did that.

Seriously, pretty interesting story. Looked at the Wiki entry, and an avalanche sounds pretty reasonable. They also say the woman was missing part of her face from decay after death, so was her tongue really torn / cut out. The tan the kid reported can also be attributed to the exposure. There was a special a while back about all the corpses on Everest. Many seemed to be almost mummified, but where there was some flesh, it was pretty tan looking.

Glowing orbs in the Urals.... I have no doubt LOL God only knows what crazy stuff the government did up there, but they have been using the Urals forever to hide stuff, and keep it out of range of enemy ground forces. Hell, when Germany became an enemy, they moved the manufacturing of the military motorcycles that they collaborated on with the Germans to the Urals. Ergo, the Ural motorcycle as they are branded to this day. Id say the orbs were just a coincidence.

Yeah I saw a special on this, believe it was in History channel. Some crazy shit went down on that camp site.

The apparent tear that was to get out of the tent and the skull fractures are interesting facets of the story too. So many little things that dont add up. Also so weird that the pics are from the day they died

It's the lack of foot prints that has me agreeing with the avalanche, and the injuries. A chunk of ice / hard pack or other debris moving at 100+ mph can easily cause those injuries.
