NFL.com Pick Analysis: Morris is a tight end that the Redskins will play at fullback. He's a blocking tight end that will be their lead blocker in the zone running scheme that Mike Shanahan implements. He figures to compete with Mike Sellers for playing time.
SCOUTING REPORT: After catching 32 passes for 521 yards and four touchdowns in his first three seasons at Louisiana Tech, Morris blossomed into of the nation's best tight ends as a senior. He had team highs in receptions (38) and yards (623) and his 12 TDs were the most nationally by a tight end. An All-American who also was named the top tight end in the nation by the College Football Performance Awards, Morris became the first Louisiana Tech player since 1999 to catch three TD passes in a game. He concluded his career with 16 touchdown receptions, ranking 10th in school history. A gifted athlete who played wide receiver, quarterback, running back and linebacker in high school, he had four 100-yard receiving games during his college career, averaging 16.3 yards per catch. Although solid in most phases of the game and with good size, Morris needs to improve his blocking skills to contribute as a fullback in the NFL. Because he doesn't excel in any one area and flew under the radar throughout his college career while playing low-level competition, he figures to be drafted in only the final round if at all.
