SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Don Coryell, the innovative coach whose San Diego Chargers teams featured some of the most dynamic passing attacks in league history, has died. He was 85.

Tough day for fans of the modern NFL. Coryell was really the father of modern, wide open offense we see so many places now.
 
From what I know, he lived a good life. And 85 ain't bad. May the football gods smile on him for bringing Air Coryell to the NFL. Watching Fouts and Chandler and the others was a treat for those of us that like air shows. Plus, he brought us Joe Gibbs
