My son is leaving for college in a few weeks and will be spending his second semester in London. I'm considering getting him a Slingbox so that he can follow his favorite teams while out of town as well.

Anybody here a user of this technology?

Ask Renaissance. I'm thinking she used one when in grad school.

I've never used one, but I've heard others talk about it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yup. Started last year. My father installed one back home in MD so I can watch all the games. :) Works pretty good.

Thanks. I picked one up from Amazon at a great price.

I have no idea what a slingbox even is but I am going to look it up now.

You hook it up to a tv then you can watch and control that tv remotely from anywhere you can get internet access. You can even buy a slingbox app for your smartphone now.

so, I could get San Diego stations from anywhere in the US? I really dont care about the Chargers and I would mainly get it to see the Skins play.

Yeah it would only benefit you and me if we bought a slingbox and gave it to someone in DC and had access to their TV.

Hence the original post.

Exactly. And hence why I set mine up at my parents' house in VA. It is also nice bc they get Showtime, HBO, etc, so I have easy access to those channels as well. Just make sure it's set up on a tv that the person doesn't use when you will be watching unless they want to watch the same thing as you. Though it is funny to log in when you know they might be watching and just start changing the channel on them :artist:
