I still don't know what the Redskins strategy was with Spencer and Reiter.

Spencer is a wide receiver that didn't start for his college team and caught fewer balls in his college career than Jerry Rice used to catch in a couple of games.

Yeah, having players available for special teams is great.

But at the heart of it I think you want to see each draft pick with some upside at his regular position on offense or defense.

Austin Reiter is another strange case.

McCloughan/Gruden drafted Scherff (6'5 and 320), Kouandjio (6'4 and 310) and decided to start Morgan Moses (6'6 and 315) on the OL, obviously trying to build up the size and strength of the group up front.

But Reiter was a 265-270 pound college center that bulked up his senior season to 290.

But still small for an NFL lineman, even a center.

Evidently, his technique wasn't that outstanding either.

Within days of camp opening the team was already shuffling Josh LeRibeus and Chris Chester in at center behind Kory Lichtensteiger to create some depth there.

A few days of watching Reiter were enough.

Not even an invite to the practice squad.

Ouch!

I pegged that Spencer pick for what it was - a favor to a team scout. Really irritates me!
