Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan

On running back Tim Hightower:
“Well, we allowed him to go full-speed this week, starting out on the scout team, and he did a good job making different cuts and looked like he was going full-speed. Yesterday he looked better and there were no setbacks, so he’s ready to go.”

On running backs Roy Helu, Jr. and Evan Royster:
“He will be out and Royster will be out. Royster is a sore knee, a little inflamed right now. Helu is not ready to go.”

On if Hightower will be the starting running back:
“No, he will not start. I will try to get him some playing time and if I put him as starter, he’d work his way backwards.”

On if Hightower talked him into playing time:
“No. He didn’t even say one word to me. I just said, 'Hey, looks like you’re ready to go. Let’s give it a shot.’ He thought he was ready to go. We just don’t want to put him out there too early. It’s my background with that, if you put him out there too early, there’s usually a setback. So, hopefully, there’s no setback. He’s had enough reps in practice where he’s feeling comfortable with it.”

On if Royster’s knee injury is minor:
“Yeah, I’m not sure what happened. He said it never bothered him at all in practice. He got up and then it bothered him. And that’s why he wasn’t able to go yesterday. I’m not really sure what it was but it’s quite sore.”

On if he is concerned that he only has three healthy running backs:
“I really don’t worry about things I can’t control. We’re just going to get these guys back as quick as we can, get them healed up. It’s nothing season-ending, one or two games we hope. We’ll just keep our fingers crossed that with a little rehab they’ll be ready to go at least by the first week.”

On how tackle Trent Williams is recovering:
“I don’t know if anybody is 100 percent. But, I think Trent looks good. I’m sure the foot is a little bit sore. Most guys are a little sore at this time of year, but nothing should hold him back.”

On if offensive lineman Chris Chester made it through the week:
“He did. He got better each day.”

On the importance of Chester playing with Tyler Polumbus and Will Montgomery on Saturday:
“I think it’s good for him to get some playing time with not being able to go last week and having a setback with his ankle. He’s had a good few days of practice. He’s gotten better each day. Hopefully, there’s no setback in this game.”

On linebacker Markus White:
“He’ll play this game.”

On if quarterback Rex Grossman will get playing time:
“We haven’t sat down [to discuss it]. I think everybody knows who’s going to play, hopefully into the third quarter. We’ll sit down and discuss playing time with everybody else.”

I really wonder if the Redskins are going to have to bring in another back as insurance.

3 of the 4 backs are down with injuries or rehabbing and slated to just begin playing again.

This is only putting more pressure on the passing game.

Although if Morris is the real deal in this system and is able to be a surprise asset in 2012 the Redskins might have dodged a bullet.

Morris, at the least, should be this year's version of Helu or Royster, if not better, IMO.

And it's pretty sad state of the team, when about 95% of the questions posed to the Coach at a press conference, are in regards to injuries.

So, does anyone have any insight on where the competition stands for the #2 QB spot ?

If I had to guess, I would say they play Cousins after Griff on Saturday to close out the Colts game then start Rex in the pre-season finale to see what the first team looks like with him under center and let Cousins play the 2nd half or even some of the 2nd quarter of that Tampa game. That would give Shanahan plenty of time to decide if it's 2 rookie QB's going into the season or if we have to drastically adjust our offense to fit around Rex, God forbid, Griff goes out during the season.

how about trade Rex for a #6 round pick to the Cardinals who seem to need a mediocre quarterback? :)
