REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES
LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed wide receiver Josh Bellamy to the team’s active roster from its practice squad and signed cornerback Peyton Thompson to their practice squad. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. In addition, the team waived cornerback Jerome Murphy and placed defensive end Stephen Bowen on its Reserve/Injured list.
Bellamy (6-0, 206) signed with the Redskins’ practice squad on Nov. 21, 2013.
Thompson (5-11, 180) originally signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a college free agent April 30, 2012. He spent the entire 2012 season on Atlanta’s practice squad and was with the Falcons through the 2013 offseason until being released on Aug. 30, 2013.
Thompson played collegiately at San Jose State, where he compiled 186 tackles (125 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, one sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 22 passes defensed in four seasons.
Thompson, 23, attended Granite Bay (Calif.) H.S., where he was a two-time Sacramento Bee honorable mention All-Metro choice. Thompson was born on Sept. 26, 1990.
Bowen, 29, signed with the Redskins as an unrestricted free agent on Sept. 29, 2011. Bowen has started all 42 regular season games in which he has played since joining the Redskins. This season, Bowen appeared in 10 games and was credited by the coaching staff with 29 tackles (20 solo).
Murphy, 26, appeared in 11 games this season and was credited by the coaching staff with eight special teams tackles.
