Sally Jenkins - Redskins Actually Not Satan's Second Coming

For those of you with a penchant for masochism (who am I kidding, we're Redskins fans, we're all have an unquenchable thirst for masochism), you no doubt have, against your better judgment, read a column lambasting the latest stumble by the team or undermining any positive development by none other than New York-based journalist Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post.

While I don't think any of us necessarily appreciates the vitriol which comes from her when she attacks the foibles of the 'Skins or of Dear Overlord Dan Snyder, it's sometimes hard to disagree with many of her underlying assessments of a team, which aside from some limited and short-lived bright spots, has been basically mediocre for the better part of Jesus-how-can-they-still-not-be-any-good or as fans of the other teams in the NFL East would say: over two decades.

It's therefore incumbent upon me to point out that Sally Jenkins has actually written a positive column about the Redskins.

I encourage you to fight the urge to buy canned goods, zombie-ammunition and toilet paper as in fact the apocalypse is not upon us and instead revel in praise from one of the team's most vocal and acerbic critics.

Sally Jenkins said:
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — If you live in the NFC East you better beat the one-man band that is Robert Griffin III now, because it’s your last chance. One day soon, maybe sooner than soon, the kid will get a little more around him, erase the last of his occasional youthful misjudgments and be unstoppable. That was the message to take from the New York Giants’ 27-23 victory over the Washington Redskins: The Redskins’ rivals better enjoy it now, because there is an absolute wolf at their door.

The question remains how long and/or how hard it was for her to write those words...but one can't argue that if one of your fiercest critics is saying you're doing something right, chances are you are, in fact, doing something right.

Kiddo, its good to have you back.

I echo that sentiment. And here's one more. Look away if you don't have a stomach....

I respect Sally Jenkins; always have.

She has been, by far, the most accurate reporter in DC. You disagree? Tell me who has been better.

Joey T? Please.

JLC? Laugh.

Wilbon? Next.

And that's a testament to how big of a joke DC sportscasters have been. Sally may be a week or two late, but she's the most respected voice in DC.

When she says you have a team.....then you have a team.

One man band?

I hope they keep forgetting Alfred

Forget Alfred?

Let's see..

1 yard behind Arian Foster for league leading rushing yardage at 658.

Tied with Ray Rice and Shonn Greene for 3rd in rushing TDs with five (Robert has 6, remember:) Foster has 9)

Tied with Frank Gore for third most runs of 20+ yards with 5. (Adrian Peterson has 7, Jamaal Charles and C.J. Spiller have 6)

4th behind Stevon Ridley, Arian Foster, and Frank Gore with 32 rushing first downs.

Tied with Arian Foster for 2nd highest yards/carry among heavily used RBs at 4.8 (Jamal Charles leads at 5.1)

Basiclly right up there with the best RBs in the league right now.

Forget Alfred? Only if they're not paying attention-or are stupid.

P.S-for informational purposes; the criterion I used to define "heavily used RBs" is 18 or more carries per game or more. There is a surprising gap in RB carries-it drops from LeSean McCoy's 18.5 carries per game to Chris Johnson's 15.7. It struck me as odd but it came in handy as a good break point.

Damn it. The woman hacked my computer and stole my blog notes for this week. :(

Let's be honest - while we have some other pieces around Griffin (most notably FAU Fighting Owls Alumnus Aflred Mother-effing MORRIS), he is a one-man band at this point. I think most would agree we would be closer to 1-6 or even 0-7 with Grossman or Cousins at the helm of this ship; Griffin is the only reason we've been in every game!

That's not to belittle Morris by any means; he's the best or 2nd best RB the Skins have had in a long, long time - but let's not kid ourselves. Griffin is the reason this team is where it is.

She's still over dramatic, and while I enjoyed reading her article because it was written about Griffin I didn't enjoy reading her article because it was written by her and it just had 'that' style, whatever that is.

I also find it interesting that she makes public comments yesterday, following criticism of her all the sudden disappearance when the Armstrong stuff started to hit, saying she's so focused on her book she can't release anything through the Post about Lance Armstrong; she's just so terribly busy with her book that's due on November 15th and it's the number one priority.

Then she releases a 2 page article on Griffin the same day.

I'm guessing that her doctor adjusted her meds quite a bit, after the electro shock therapy.
