Run-scoring singles for Daniel Bero and Weston Simon highlighted a four-run top of the eighth inning May 16 as the Utica baseball team rallied for an 8-4 victory at Watkins Memorial in Licking County League play.

Gaige Spray led Utica (7-16, 5-11), which scored four runs in the seventh, with three hits and two runs, and Nate Hite added two hits and a run. Bero also struck out two and allowed two hits in 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Bradley Vincent drove in all four runs for the Warriors (11-9, 10-6) with a home run and a single, and Trent Johnson added a double and a run. Jackson Bowers struck out four and carried a shutout into the seventh inning.

Valley blanks Northridge​


Evan Lohr’s two-run double followed Cayden Worley’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to cap Licking Valley’s 10-0 victory against Northridge at Don Edwards Park in LCL play.

Adam West added two hits, a run and an RBI, Zane Hancock two hits and two runs and Silas Kyle a hit, two runs and an RBI for the Panthers (17-6, 14-2). Evan Lichtenauer struck out seven in a two-hit shutout.

Noah Mason and Kash Reeves each doubled for the Vikings (7-15, 2-14).

NC wins at home​


Mikey Hess and Malone Hutchison recorded three hits apiece, combining for three runs and three RBIs, fueling Newark Catholic in an 8-1 victory against visiting Ridgewood.

Max Moore added a double and a single and three RBIs and Jaxon Holman two hits and a run for the Green Wave (13-9). Moore struck out one in a three-hitter.

Newark nipped at home​


Hunter Hammond struck out three in three no-hit innings of relief for Newark in a 3-2 loss to visiting Bloom-Carroll.

Seth Fish led the Wildcats (9-9) with two hits and a run, and Moses Crane added a hit and a run. Cale Saunders struck out three and allowed two hits and two earned runs in four innings.

Johnstown drops home game​


Braeden Archibald was 4 for 4, scored four runs and drove in a run for Johnstown in a 15-8 loss to visiting Zanesville (9-13, 5-10) in LCL play.

Landon Myers added three hits, two runs and two RBIs and Sam Marasek a hit and an RBI for the Johnnies (11-11, 6-10).

SOFTBALL​

Watkins beats Granville​


Kylie Trouten homered as a part of a 3 for 3 day, scoring three runs for Watkins Memorial in a 10-3 victory against visiting Granville in LCL-Buckeye play.

Gracie Gerhardt and Marlee Gerhardt also each homered for the Warriors (14-10, 10-6) with Gracie Gerhardt racking up three hits and three RBIs, and Bryna Davis added two hits and a run and Marissa Weber a hit and two RBIs. Kendal Tellings struck out three and allowed two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Megan Lodge and Jillian Brownfield led the Blue Aces (8-16, 5-11) with three hits and a run apiece. Carly Wollenberg added a solo home run.

NC rallies in seventh​


Aly Rothweiler’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Newark Catholic a 3-2 victory against visiting Ridgewood.

Rothweiler also struck out seven and allowed five hits and one run in five innings for the Green Wave (9-14). Brooklyn Kurtz Merricks added a hit and a run and Jahni Whitney and Avery Sullivan a run apiece.

Heights wins on road​


Natalie Mahoney struck out nine in a two-hitter, pitching Licking Heights to a 6-1 victory at Westerville North.

Ali West led the Hornets (14-11) with a double and a single, a run and an RBI. Lily Meidl added two RBIs and Lydia Rauch and Ava Von Bargen a hit and a run apiece.

Valley falls on road​


Emory Whisner homered and drove in two runs for Licking Valley in a 13-6 loss at Lancaster (24-2).

Alexa Gilliam and Dani Lambert added a hit and two RBIs apiece for the Panthers (20-5).
