REDSKINS ANNOUNCE PRESEASON SCHEDULE
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – The National Football League announced its 2010 preseason schedule today. The Washington Redskins’ four-game slate begins with home contests against the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens in Weeks 1-2 and continues with road games at the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals in Weeks 3-4.
“We will be working on improving many areas of our football team this offseason and during training camp,” Redskins Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. “The preseason will give us an opportunity to test ourselves against other quality teams in the National Football League.”
Washington will begin the Shanahan era with consecutive games at FedExField, marking the first time the Redskins have opened the preseason with two straight home contests since 1981. In Week 1, the Redskins will host the Bills in the preseason for the second time in three seasons. That will be followed by a visit from the Ravens in Week 2, the fifth time in six years (2005-07, 09-10) the teams will square off in the preseason. The clubs also met at Baltimore in the regular season in 2008.
The Redskins’ first road trip of the 2010 season will be in Week 3 of the preseason when they visit New Meadowlands Stadium to take on the Jets. Washington also visited the Jets in the 2008 preseason. The Redskins will wrap up their 2010 preseason campaign by visiting the Cardinals in the team’s first-ever trip to University of Phoenix Stadium.
Washington has split 12 preseason matchups against Buffalo, including a 17-14 victory in the last matchup at FedExField in 2008. The Redskins are 2-3 all-time in the preseason against Baltimore, including a 23-0 defeat at Baltimore in 2009. They have a 4-4 all-time preseason record against the Jets, winning the last matchup, 13-10, at New York in 2008.
The Redskins and Cardinals franchises have met just once previously in the preseason when the St. Louis Cardinals visited Washington in 1971, a 20-13 Redskins victory. The trip will be the farthest for the Redskins for a preseason games since playing San Francisco in the American Bowl in Osaka, Japan, in 2002. It will mark Washington’s longest trip in the United States for a preseason contest since playing at the Los Angeles Raiders in 1992.
Specific dates and times for all games will be determined at a later date. All Redskins preseason contests will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet. The games can also be heard on the Redskins Radio Network.
