REDSKINS SIGN K JOHN POTTER

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent kicker John Potter. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition, the team waived quarterback Pat White.

Potter (6-1, 219) was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft (251st overall). He was previously signed by the Redskins on June 12, 2013, appearing on the team’s roster throughout training camp before being waived by the squad on Aug. 26. Potter spent the first six weeks of the 2012 season as the Bills’ kickoff specialist, kicking off 24 times with 13 touchbacks and an average distance of 66.8 yards.

Potter, 23, played collegiately at Western Michigan, where he converted 47-of-65 field goal attempts and 184-of-188 PATs to become the school’s all-time leader for career points by a kicker. He was born on Jan. 24, 1990, and attended Grand Haven (Mich.) H.S., where he was a 2007 All-State selection by the Detroit News.

White (6-0, 190) signed with the Redskins on April 4, 2013. During the 2013 preseason, he completed 28-of-50 passes for 330 yards and added 19 rushing attempts for 103 yards with three rushing touchdowns.

Well crap! I didn't think we'd get rid of White this quickly. I'm betting Coughlin and half our opponents this season have already contacted him.

Who's to say we made an arrangement with Pat with the understanding we needed to sign a kicker?
