REDSKINS ANNOUNCE 2013 PRESEASON SCHEDULE
LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The National Football League announced its 2013 preseason schedule today, and the Washington Redskins’ four-game slate features a road opener against the Tennessee Titans, a nationally-televised home tilt with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a home date with the Buffalo Bills and a road finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Specific times for all games will be determined at a later date.
Three of the four games will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet. The Redskins’ Week 2 game against the Steelers will be televised on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. All games can also be heard on the Redskins Radio Network.
Washington will open the preseason against Tennessee, marking the teams’ first preseason meeting since 2007 when the Redskins defeated the Titans, 14-6, in Nashville. Washington is undefeated in preseason games played in Tennessee since the merger, including one game against the Houston Oilers (1995), two games against the Tennessee Oilers (1997-98), and one game against the Tennessee Titans (2007).
The Redskins make their FedExField debut on Monday Night Football on Aug. 19 when they face the Steelers, marking the 21st preseason meeting between the teams since 1961, tied for the most of any opponent in Redskins history (Colts – 21). Washington has won eight of its last nine preseason games against Pittsburgh, including a 16-7 win in the Redskins’ preseason debut in 2011.
The following week, Washington will host Buffalo at FedExField. The last time the Redskins hosted the Bills came in 2010 in the Redskins preseason debut of Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan, as Washington defeated Buffalo, 42-17. The Redskins have won four straight preseason games against the Bills, including a 7-6 road win in the team’s preseason debut last season.
The Redskins will close the preseason against Tampa Bay for the third consecutive year. In 2012, the Redskins earned a 30-3 win against the Buccaneers at FedExField in Week 4 of the preseason. Washington has won its last three preseason games against the Buccaneers, including victories in the 2002, 2011 and 2012 preseasons.
