REDSKINS RE-SIGN SANTANA MOSS; SIGN DE CLIFTON GEATHERS

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed wide receiver Santana Moss and signed unrestricted free agent defensive end Clifton Geathers. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Moss (5-10, 189) returns for his 14th NFL season and his 10th in Washington. He was originally selected by the New York Jets in the first round (16th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. The Redskins acquired Moss via trade on March 9, 2005.

Moss has appeared in 187 career regular season games with 135 starts, compiling 722 receptions for 10,167 yards (14.1 avg.) with 66 receiving touchdowns. He was only one of seven players active during the 2013 season to have reached the 10,000-yard career milestone.

Since joining the Redskins in 2005, Moss has played 136 regular season games in burgundy and gold with 106 starts. He ranks third in team history in career receptions (571), fourth in career receiving yards (7,751) and seventh in receiving touchdowns (47).

Moss played collegiately at Miami (Fla.) from 1997-2000, appearing in 41 games with 31 starts and setting Miami’s all-time record with 2,546 receiving yards. As a senior in 2000, he became the first player to earn Big East Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Year honors in the same season.

Moss, 34, attended Carol City (Fla.) H.S., where he was a standout multi-sport athlete in football and track. He was born on June 1, 1979.

Geathers (6-8, 340) was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. His four NFL seasons include stints with the Browns (2010), Miami Dolphins (2010), Seattle Seahawks (2010), Dallas Cowboys (2010-11), Indianapolis Colts (2012) and Philadelphia Eagles (2013). For his career, Geathers has appeared in 31 regular season games with one start.

Geathers played collegiately at South Carolina from 2007-09, compiling 72 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery over three seasons with the Gamecocks.

Geathers, 26, attended Carvers Bay H.S. in Hemingway, S.C., where he was one of the nation's top prospects and participated in the Army All-American game in January 2006. He was born Dec. 11, 1987. He is the nephew of James “Jumpy” Geathers, a 13-year NFL veteran who played for the Redskins from 1990-92 and helped the franchise to victory in Super Bowl XXVI.
