Redskins re-sign Aldrick Robinson

That sound you hear off in the distance? That's Bulldog's head exploding. :)

Seriously though, he's a bubble player. With this contract if he doesn't beat out whomever we sign in the offseason we can just cut him. Personally, I like the idea of re-signing our own guys. Robinson could still be a viable 4th or 5th guy. Why not bring him back to compete for that spot?

Agreed... no reason to part ways yet. Nothing to lose with him. If it works out in the new system, he's a steal. If not, he doesn't really cost us anything.

He's fast, maybe he fits in the Andrew Hawkins role in our offense.

Forget him as a returner. Been there, done that. With the motley crew of returners we had out there in 2013 it was telling the team never turned to Robinson for at least a game or two.

I don't have a problem with bringing him back on a one year make -good deal for #4 or #5 receiver money.

I think that's about what he is worth right now.

the problem is robinson is a one trick pony. based on the way we played in 2013 i don't think we're really in a position to acquire/keep one trick ponies. if we had built off of 2012 in a better way then maybe.

but robinson can't go across the middle. he can only go deep. when you have an o line that can't keep a pocket reliably and a qb that wont stay in the pocket very long you don't get a lot of opportunities to use a guy that can only run a go route :\

He did more than just go deep the last three games with Kirk throwing the ball...

It's not the routes he runs or doesn't run that bother me, it's the inconsistent hands. However, I would have signed him to this deal as well. I like bringing our own back to compete.

With a quality #2 and even a decent #3 WR, a scheme or actual OL that gives Griffin more time, Robinson's one trick could be enough as a #4 or #5 WR. We simply don't have enough resources to worry about hitting with a late round pick to fill the spot. As has been said, if we do hit on a late round gem at WR to replace him, great! If not...well, let's hope we get enough pieces in place that next year we can find his replacement if needed.

To be fair, I'm still not sure what we have in Robinson. Is he a one-trick pony? I dunno....I don't feel like we have enough data on him yet with all the silly Shanahanagans that have been going on the last two years. For this deal, I figure it's a good flyer to take so that we really see what he can do. I have a feeling he can be effective across the middle....so long as he holds on to the ball. I'm with Neo on that.

All of that is very fair. It's a 1 year deal for cheap.

Who knows, with a healthy griffin, a few people swapped out, and a different offensive system maybe he becomes a go to kind of guy in certain situations.

Is this Lanky talking about Hankerson? ;)

To be honest, with this kid's speed, I have never understood how we didn't get him in the game more running sideline hitches early on to set up for the play action hitch and go later in the game. Or hit him on quick slants when the defense is playing 8 in the box with a single high safety. He doesn't have to "go over the middle" in the traditional sense to be damn effective if we would just use him.

Looking forward to a breakout season for AR-11 this year.

during the film break down segments on cooley's show he said he can't get separation.

Redsins? New name?

Other sins are going to be upset.

I just never saw him translate his speed into open patterns. season previous it appeared it was more the play design than Robinson's pure speed that made the difference. he never appeared to simply blow by defenders.

I think that is as much a function of setting the defense up for it with play calling as it is outright speed though. Defenders know he has jets and they know the Skins use him as a big play, go deep guy. We have to use that early to hit him on some short routes so that later in the game defenders bite up on him rather than giving themselves the cushion necessary to allow them to stay with him deep.

*shrug*

Maybe I am overthinking it but I remember Gibbs talking about play calling back during his first run here and he likened it to a chess match. He used to run plays in the first half that had little likelihood of baring much fruit at the time just to set the defense up for a big play in the second half. Robinson seems like the kind of guy that would be great for that sort of thing.
