Notes on Sunday’s loss to the Panthers and looking ahead to the rest of the season:

— The broken record keeps skipping. The Redskins tend to start off strong, emboldening fans with hope, until the injuries begin accumulating and disappointment sets in.

Over the past five seasons, the Redskins have played .500 football in the first eight games on the calendar. But in the second half of the season they’ve only managed a .300 winning percentage. And never in that period have they been better in the second half of the season than the first, nor have they been better than .500 in the second half.

[smug]Hmmmmm....the first part of this sounds a bit like someone's blog this week although that someone admittedly didn't go back 5 years.[/smug]

Statistics are for losers. The reason this particular team is not winning is it is in Year 2 of a three or four year project to re-establish Washington as a professional operation in the NFL.

BUT, this team is going through adversity with a squad largely composed of younger players, draft picks and free agents.

Those previous Redskins teams were not built for improvement over time but supposedly for contending right away.

So, this time there are no tears because we all knew what the score was.

Build the defense this year and concentrate on the offense in 2012.

We are on track to do that.
